Followup on Shapewear - How Often Do You Wear It?

Hi, someone posted about shapewear the other day and got me thinking about this.

How often do you wear it, and if you wear it often, what kind do you wear?

I have a piece that is like a slip, starts under my bust and goes to a short skirt that I wear with dresses. It works well for the 2-3 times a year I wear it.

But do some of you wear it on a more regular basis? Like with jeans, etc? I'm thinking about it because although I weigh the same as I did before kids, after 2 c-sections, my middle isn't pretty and low-rise jeans (or even mid-rise) only accentuate the worst of it.

If I spend the $ to buy Spanxx, is it comfortable enough to wear on a more regular basis?

TIA!

What can I do next?

I have a victorias secret brand one that is like shorts that come up to my middle. It sucks in my middle, makes my bum more flattering, but the reason I like it so much is because I wear dresses and skirts most of the time and it eliminates the need for a slip and hides any panty lines.
I wear mine 4-5 times a week. I will not wear it with jeans or pants- the jeans slip against the fabric and slide down. I have tried a few shapewear brands under jeans and I looked dumb every time.

Those things will never touch my body. I work out every day and when that fails, I buy more comfortable and flattering clothing. :-)

I have a pair that is similar to yours but the thigh part has legs, like shorts (avoiding chub rub). So shorts starting at mid-thigh that go all the way up to right below the bra and then hook onto your bra so that there is no roll down. Mine are real Spanx and they are very comfortable. I bought mine for a special event a few years ago and only wore them a few time a year for a while but I recently got a couple of great, very flattering knit dresses that I wear to work on a regular basis so I now wear mine weekly during warm weather.

I think that if my only issues were in lower-rise jeans, I would buy jeans with a higher rise and call it a day but if your favorite brand/style comes only in a lower rise, then a high-waist panty shaper that smoothes from your hips to your bust would work.

I'm with Sue W. I don't own any and won't wear it.

I work out and wear clothes that show off my body without needing to squeeze myself to death to try to pass off wearing something maybe I shouldn't be wearing anyway.

I have a few pieces, a cami style top and a bottom piece that looks like a pair of bike shorts. I only wear them for dressy occasions, with clothes that are thin and clingy and don't really offer structural support. They don't really make you look any smaller they just smooth things out for a more polished look (I especially like the way the cami makes my bra straps pretty much invisible.)
But I would never wear them every day, especially in the heat because that would be hot and uncomfortable for more than a few hours!
ETA: yes, they are Spanxx, I haven't tried anything else.

I've worn them under dresses for fancy occasions, but I would never wear them every day. When I get to that point (and I'm there now) where I feel like I need one every, then I know it's time to suck it up, accept my bad form as punishment for my bad habits (which I absolutely am to blame for my shape), and start the changes. Knowing I will look good in a few months of work is good enough - couldn't possibly wear shape wear more than once a year.

I have 2 pairs high rise, thigh covering things from spanx and wear with certain summer dresses and with a couple dresses during Christmas time. Also bought a few pieces made by spanx company but cheaper at Target, to help with thighs during this transitional period, had baby and weaned, no longer nursing so now trying to lose baby weight. I don't know if they would look good under jeans? Hey if you want to wear something that boosts your self esteem, more power to ya.

I tried them on once. They didn't make me look any better and felt weird. Instead, I focused on working out and wearing clothes that flatter. Low rise jeans are tough to wear, get a higher rise that hits well below "Mom Jean" height.

The history of shapewear is kind of fascinating to me - it goes back a long long way.
Somehow, no matter what they call it, it still seems almost like some sort of medieval torture device.
Being squeezed into anything that resembles a sausage casing is just not comfortable.
I spend the money on clothes that fit my body - I don't spend money on girdles to squeeze me into clothes that don't (or no longer) fit me.

I don't have any shapewear bottoms that work with pants - the material makes it awkward. But I have shapewear camisoles that come down far enough to serve a similar purpose.

In general, I only wear shapewear with formal dresses, a few times a year.

I have a pair of Spanx. I bought them to wear under a dress that I loved, but showed EVERY bump underneath. I have a nice figure, but really don't like going without underwear. And the underwear lines are not attractive.

That was the first and last time I wore them. They're comfortable, but I just don't need them otherwise.

I hate being squeezed (even pantyhose are uncomfortable), so I work on finding outfits that are flattering as-is.
