For Those with Young Kids - What Does Your Average Weekend Look Like?

Just curious to hear what other fams do on the weekends. We all look so forward to them, and we either are SUPER busy and are running here and there, dinner out, etc - or we are laid back and at home and some of us (DH to be exact) never leave our jammies! I use these days as catch up for laundry, cleaning, etc.

Just like to hear what others do - and what is your favorite thing to do with the kids on weekends?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Jennifer - I love that point you make. I hate doing the cleaning and things on the weekend but I work full time and am just too exhausted for weekday cleaning and laundry. Any moms have suggestions for breaking it up a little to allow for more freedom to out of the home working moms on the weekends? I may just have to have a messy house!!

Well, this weekend, tonight is either A.) baseball practice or B. movie night at school--depending on the weather. Tomorrow will be grocery shopping, cleaning AND laundry (triple threat) sine my butt has not n=been home as much as needed this past week.
Sunday, baseball practice.
Probably will visit Grandma and play Wii and TRY to relax.

We would go bowling for the longest time, but we just found and EXTREMELY good deal on a cabin and ended up purchasing it. Needs work so now it looks like we will be up there on our weekends with no tv and no drama from other family members (uhhuh.. SIL!!!! hehe). It is right on the river so we are definitely looking forward to spending our summers there with our kids and hopefully making great memories.

Today, hopefully if it is nice, (supposed to be) my husband and I are taking our son to the playground, and for a walk and later to run some errands. Should be a good day! Usually we find one thing we want to do and do it, and Saturdays, the hubby and I take time to do things we cant during the week. Deep cleaning the house and running errands. Its not the funnest stuff to do sometimes, but at least were doing it together!

Well my kids are 11 yrs, 7 yrs and 5 yrs. The majority of our weekend consistent of this. Eat breakfast leave house by 9:15. Daughter has gymnastic at 9:30. Then one child has karate at 10am. Third child has karate at 10:45. Then we go home the kids play outside. Then my oldest and I go over his homework. I make lunch. Usually have a b day party to attend. Starting tomorrow baseball starts for my middle child. Saturday night we usually go to church.

Weekends are super slow for us compared to the week, I guess, because we homeschool and because I am at home I try to keep up on my chores daily. Saturday we usually don't do anything (I mean, we might walk, go to the park, watch movies, etc, but nothing chore wise) and Sundays are church, big lunch, change the sheets, and then whatever we feel like doing.

For this month it is soccer games in the early mornings then we come home eat lunch, other than that the kids are outside or inside depending on the weather I don't care to leave much on the weekends like to do all the cleaning, dad will take them to the hardware store, fishing or on nature walks (I would like to go to but don't get out of jammies till i'm done cleaning)
For the most part it isn't that hectic,if I can i'll ask my mom to watch them while I go shopping for groceries. My hubby however is busy doing yard work, doing something to the house

girl i know how you feel...i work FT out of the home and i'm a single mom, also, of a 2 yr old. so in the last couple wks i tried doing piddly stuff throughout the week, like unload the dishwasher, start a load of towels, maybe sweep, etc. believe me girl, i HATE doing this, but it really frees up my wknd. and i know how it is, i want to spend as much good time w/my son as possible on the wknds & i hate spending hours in the a.m. cleaning up the house. that's what i would recommend. i'm exhausted too, i really relate. but if you could push through & wipe down a toilet bowl real quick or wipe down the counters, whatever, it'll make a difference for you on the wknds. so...i just realized this didn't answer your question sorry - so to answer your question - i hang out w/my son in the a.m. & just enjoy the warm snuggly sweet happy time w/him, eat, nap again (smile), wake up & do park or an errand. sunday...same morning routine, just hang out, maybe walk, p/u around the house (you CAN'T avoid it! - lol!), nap, maybe go out again...prettty boring probably to most people but i LOVE our laid back style. as he gets older he'll be bored doing that, but i'm enjoying time w/my little sweet family - me, my DS, and my sweet little girl (rat terrier). :)

I have always tried not to do any major cleaning or laundry on the weekend. I know a lot of people who use that time to clean and get ready for the week which meas no true relaxation or fun.
I always here that being a stay at home mom is work-- I take that to mean 9 to 5 M-F that is my window for cleaning and paying bills and sorting/organizing, ie making life happen.
Once the weekend comes around I should be able to enjoy it like my husband or kids do. If he is going to sit in a chair playing video games all day why should I run around the house cleaning and folding clothes. It will just make me mad and sad. Working while every one mostly sits and watches me doing it. Yes it is the best time to get everyone to help. But to teach responsibility you will end up making the household do something during the week. It is how we all learn balance. So it is possible to get family to chip in for 15 mins every evening. So the weekend belongs to whole family.
If the weather isn't nice for parks and outing we stay in --PJ's optional. We very very very rarely have company come by. People just don't visit with each other like they used to anymore. If I try to drop by someones I do feel like I am inconveniencing them so we don't do it anymore. Plus with us moving so much as we are military we don't have friends near by. Weekends have certainly made us a very tight family.
So to make a long story even longer my favorite thing to do on the weekend is nothing, grilling, tv and just hanging out with family.

I work full time and go to school once a week and take an online class. I have to breakdown my nights for studying, my 5 year old homework and cleaning. Monday nights I try to do the laundry and kitchen duties and friday nights the rest of the house. Saturday mornings we are up at 8 am to get ready for dance class which is out of town. I consider that mommy and daughter day. We will go have lunch together and maybe a little shopping. Depending on the weather we would go out to the park to. I love just getting away from everything and get to spend time with my buggy bear. And on Sundays, I spend it like a zombie attached to my computer doing homework then it's movie night for the 3 of us.
