Fort Myers, FL in January?

We're looking for a reasonably prices, kid-friendly get away during the month of January. Fort Myers seems like a decent option--anyone been there?? Where did you stay? did you like it? Do you think the weather will be okay in January? We'd be flying in, probably not renting a car and traveling with a 1 yr old and 3 yr old. Any recommendations would be great!

Hi - Sorry I'm late, but I second what everyone else said: too cold to go swimming in January. We've been to Naples several times in the winter (not by choice, my in-laws live there), and it's usually in the 60s/70s. Also, I don't think there's much to do in Ft. Myers without a car. I'd go to the Caribbean if you can afford it - much warmer and more to do.

To ensure you have warm weather in January, I would scratch Florida. Florida in January is too risky, and even if it's somewhat warm in Florida in January, it might get up to the low 70's, which is very nice, but hardly swim weather. I would play it safe and go to the Caribbean, where you will be guaranteed hot weather.

we have been to florida many times. naples is wonderful but expensive. last time we went we stayed at a beach house we rented. it was in fort meyers beach. found it on ebay lol. a lady named molly orvis owns it. if you want the info email me and i will send it to you. she rents it by the week and it is way cheaper than a hotel for a week. has 2 bedrooms, liv, kitchen and bath and porch. its across the street from beach access

SORRY!! I'm having a blonde moment inlaws live in Naples that's a half hour from Ft Myers so the info I typed would be what I think about Naples. Don't know much about Ft Myers being we land there rent a car and just drive out of there.

I would head to Naples, Sarasota, Siesta Key or THE Keys if you're doing that area of Florida. All of those places should be very pleasant in January, but sometimes they do get a cold snap.Depending on what you find cold as far as swimming may also be an issue. It's odd for the Keys to get below the upper 60s, but it DOES happen -and if it's going to happen it will usually occur in December or January. I know it's not necessarily "reasonable prices" but have you thought about Disney World? That would be a great time to go -not hot, lower crowds! If you really want tropical -maybe a Disney Cruise?

I went one January and it was too cold to even put my feet in the water.
I would look for a hotel with an indoor pool.

We stayed in Cape Coral (about 30 minutes away) in March, and the weather was really chilly! I would expect January to be pretty cold (unless they had some sort of random heat wave). We were in Fort Myers for a bit and it seemed like a place that you would have to rent a car. Especially in the middle of winter, I'm not sure if there would be enough for you to do just at a resort. It seemed like an OK place, but there are other places in FL that are much nicer. Maybe the "locals" on here would have better advice, but honestly, I don't think I would go that time of year or without a car.

There are a lot of fun things to do there, but it won't be warm. The Floridians will be wearing their parkas and mittens -- seriously!
