I am looking for any advice for those of you who have young toddlers who are not potty trained. Please no negative responses or badgering since my 3 yr old is not potty trained and is not even interested-So please keep all the negativity to yourself. Anyway my question is the past t2 days I have noticed a foul smell from that area. There is no discharge or rash-she had yeast infections and UTIs before and no symptoms as to those problems and her urine does not smell any different. She is cleaned there every night well and does not sit in the bath tub. Lately I leave her diaper off when possible to air out, but was wondering if anyone else ever had this. It may be a dumb question, but I am sure there is someone out there who experianced this. Thanks in advance for any help! L.:)

Hi L.,

My daughter was not potty trained until just before the eve of her 3rd birthday. You are absolutely right to take your cues from your daughter as to how and when to potty train her. Our goal should be to raise healthy, secure kids, not trained seals. That being said . . .

It does sound like she has a gut yeast overgrowth situation going on here and that may be effect her ability to become potty trained. It's not really a cleanliness issue but, for some kids, they are just more prone to yeast overgrowth issues because that's how their digestive systems works. A constant craving for sweets is a good indicator that yeast is an issue, as well as foul smelling poops and possibly a gassy stomach. My son actually had this issue and it took a while for us to figure it out. Our doctor, who is an MD and Homeopath, gave us suppositories and sublingual drops to give him and that has really helped and finally got our son (who is older than 3) to become fully potty trained. If this is true for your daughter as well, she can also be treated with Difulcan and a really high dose probiotic (to replace the good bacteria wiped out by the Difulcan). You will also want to restrict or really limit high-sugar food because sugar feeds yeast.

Good luck.

L.

had she maybe stuck something up there?
I know this sounds weird... but, I have read, and been told by our Pediatrician and a Specialist, that it is NOT uncommon, that children this age sometimes stick things up there...
My girl once had a UTI... and this was one of the questions they asked us. And they said that it sometimes happens, and as a matter of routine, they ask this question.

Just take her to the doctor if you have not already done so.
It could be anything... but usually some kind of infection.
It would be best to get a Doctors diagnosis.

Take care,
Susan

Has she eaten any new foods? Sounds like the start of an infection though. Best call the dr. in the am. My daughter didn't get potty trained until she was three so don't fret...

hello there..my daughter had the same problem when she was younger..it is the sign of an infection coming on;at least thats what the dr always told us..it could also be the type of soap your using in the baths..if you leave your child in the tub too long it can cause an odor as wierd as that sounds..maybe change the soap for thats what i did and it seemed to help..i would also call the dr to get her checked out just to make sure its not an infection

I have no answers for your questions but I wanted to say one thing about the potty trainig, Your child will let you know when she is ready!! So kudos for you for not pushing the matter with her! My daughter decided on her own and was trained in less then a day at the age of two, my second child (a son) trained himself in less then a day at the age of 3 (right after his birthday) third child (another son) turned three in Sept and shows interset in peeing on the potty but no BMs. He is not ready but will let me know when he is! I feel that if you start before THE CHILD is ready it takes alot longer and is much harder - wait for them and they do most of the work by themselves! Good luck with your questions, sorry I was not help. But I know how you feel about negativity about the entire potty training thing and I wanted to let you know that you are not alone. All kids are different so you can NOT put an age to when one child will be doing something and you can not judge a child/parent if a child is not doing this or that by a certian age. God bless and keep up all your good work!

Hi there!

I wrote a post about this awhile back about my daughter... she was potty trained but was about the same age as your daughter. Anyway, we have found that if we don't rinse her very well down there after the bath or shower (even a non-bubble bath) then it makes it worse, and also using scented wipes made the situation WAY worse. We were using the kandoo wipes on her and have found that the problem is pretty much gone now that we switched to unscented wipes. However, our doc also told us that some girls are basically just stinkier down there than others, something to do with their ph balance or something. He also said it can be from something they have eaten. So if you are sure there is no infection, it may just be normal for her or maybe check your wipes or her food. Good luck!
