I know that I am freaking out early on this...but my son was rushed to the hospital by ambulance yesterday for an injury he got at daycare, needless to say he got 3 stitches on his lip. I am already freaking out about how much this is going to cost us.. I have no idea how much the ambulance is or the hospital bill... anyone know roughly what the costs before insurance typically are? And do you think that they will work with me on a payment plan... I know that our deductable is $1000/per person in network. Please help.

What can I do next?

At least you have insurance so that will definitely be a huge help to you. And yes, hospitals do have payment plans. You may also be eligable for a discount based off your income and other factors, even if you do have insurance. Once you get the bill from the hospital, contact their finance department and ask to speak to someone about it. They will tell you exactly what you need to provide to be considered for it. Even if they give you 10%, it's still something!

Our ambulance ride cost around $500 - emergency room costs can vary but check with your insurance. Even if you have $1000 deductible, if you have a co-payment for doctor office visits ($10 or $30 or whatever), most of the plans call for a co-pay for emergency room visits (mine is $50) so then all you would be on the hook for is the ambulance plus $50. I've never heard of a medical provider - ambulance, hospital, doctor or whatever that won't allow payment plans. Don't worry!

i am not sure about the ambulance but i know some ER bills can start at $500-$1000 and insurance is usually 'ok' w/picking up some (depending how good it is)
otherwise almost ALL hospitals etc.. will work a payment plan if you need one - there is always a financial advisor to work w/you - "technically" i was always told that as long as you send them "something" they cannot send you to collections for it - even if its only $10 a month!

good luck! I hope he is ok!

Hi!
When my son went to the ER in an ambulance for a seizure it was $550 for the ambulance ride billed through the fire dept--they billed my insurance and I had to pay my deductible part(all of it for me since I too have $1000 deduct). I don't remember how much the ER part was. Hope this helps--I know the worst part is not knowing the cost!!
