Fruit Salad Recipe

I'm trying to remember the name/ingredients of a fruit salad for my niece's birthday. I think there were mandarin oranges, maybe pineapples, maybe not... Some green grapes, something white and sweet... Coconut? Marshmallows? Can anyone help me out here?
I volunteered to bring a fruit salad, and normally, I'd just cut up fresh fruit. But the party was postponed from midsummer to late September and fruit is really expensive right now. Plus, it's a milestone b-day, so they're looking at a really big crowd. So I'm hoping to use some canned fruit and save some money (see next question for why!). Any ideas?

I use a bag of small marshmallows, 1/2 cup coconut, 2 cans mandarin oranges, 1 med. can pineapple tidbits and use cool whip to stick it all together. I also sometimes put the canned red cherries in it. My grandmother and mother have been making it for years and its always a hit at parties.

I believe you are referring to Ambrosia salad. I have had it many times before but do not have a recipe. I'm sure someone on here must. Otherwise you could google it. Good luck!

I just made a fruit salad this evening:

Watermelon
cantalope
black berries
raspberries
blue berries
strawberries
bananas

I don't put coconut or marshmallows in my fruit salad unless it's a jell-o thing....

GOOD LUCK!!!

My MIL's Orange Salad:

Large can mandarin oranges
Large box orange J-E-L-L-O (dry)
Med. container whipped topping (NOT fat free)
Large container cottage cheese

Mix all and add whipped topping last. Don't use all of it if it is runny--add more J-E-L-L-O if needed. Can garnish with oranges.

My Favorite: Yummy Cherry Salad (not a healthy recipe!)

1 can Cherry Pie Filling
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 container whipped topping
1 can crushed pineapple, drained

Mix all ingredients, chill in bowl.

Sounds like "Hawaiian" or "Ambrosia" salad...
I make mine with 1/2 c flaked coconut, 2 cans mandarin oranges, a med can of crushed pineapple, Large can fruit cocktail, and a bag (or a little less) of mini marshmallows (drain fruit) mixed together in a bowl. Then I make a "dressing" of 16 oz sour cream mixed with about 1/2c to 1c of powdered sugar (more or less to taste...should be lightly sweet, but not too sweet :) Stir in dressing and chill.

Everyone I know loves this recipe!

Sounds like something my grandmother used to make. She left out the coconut. Mini marshmallows, fruit cocktail which is where you get the different fruits, and cool whip is what she used to hold it all together.

my mom calls it 5 Cup Salad.
1 cup coconut
1 cup mini marshmellows
1 cup mandarin oranges
1 cup pineapple
1 cup chopped walnuts

you take half the juice from the can of mandarin oranges and half the juice from the pineapple and mix it. you take a 16oz container of sour cream, you use i'd say about 2/3 of it and mix in the juice with it until it is close to the consistency of syrup. then you pour it over the other ingredients, mix and refrigerate. I add green or red grapes to mine as well, i just cut them in half. I love this salad.
