Just wondering if when you had gallbladder issues if they did anything at the beginning of it bothering you or if they waited till it was to bad?? I just have that dull ache feeling right where it is and this time it's lasting longer than last but heard that they can't really do anything till it's real bad. how do they check your gallbladder also just sonogram or other ways? thank you

What can I do next?

I was like the last poster I ended up being so bad by the time i got to the hospital that I actually had to wait until the toxin level calmed down for like an entire week before mine was taken. they wanted to try and play it off as a gas problem or something, even though I kept pushing and then I found myself one night heading to the emergency room and it was not until my doctor as the hospital decided to give me an ultrasound,I would as for this if any doubt on how serious the problem will be.

I would agree that it was the worst pain of my life....worse than labor. I didn't go to the doctor for quite awhile because I'm a cheap a**. When I finally did go, they ordered an ultrasound and that's when they saw the stones. They had an appointment for me to see a surgeon within a few days, but they allowed me to wait a couple of months for the surgery because I'm a teacher and I didn't want to miss end of the year stuff. My surgery was laproscopic so I was fine within a few days:) I did notice though that it didn't matter WHAT I ate. An attack could come on at any time during the day or night (my first one ever came on in the middle of the night)!

Have you seen a doctor?

If you have gallstones, they can see them via ultrasound.

If things aren't too bad, you SHOULD be able to control the problem by diet, at least temporarily (small meals, little to no fat).

Personally, when mine went bad, it went BAD and I had to spend 4 days in the hospital waiting for things to "calm down" before I was actually able to have it out.

They can tell certain things from blood work, I guess (that's what my problem was, my blood work was all over the place). A stone can pass or get stuck somewhere or....other things, lol.

Call your doc though when you can. Feel better!

This sounds extreme, but if you have a problem, you really need to get it checked. Although it was years ago and before they were doing laproscopic surgery, I almost died from complications of my gallbladder. I was 19, had a 7 month old baby and had been having gallbladder attacks for 6 months. The doctor had wanted to remove my gallbladder 3 months earlier and I was so scared that I would not let them do it. I put it off until I had to be admitted to the hospital with a serious infection and severe pain. A gallstone had passed thru the duct and was lodged in my lower bowel. My doctor started me on iv antibiotics and and waited two days to do the surgery, which was then deemed emergency surgery. What should have been a three hour surgery was a 6 hour surgery and I was hospitalized for 2 weeks. I lost 20 pounds. My doctor told me that if I had waited one more day to come in I would have died.

I am not trying to scare you, I am just pointing out the reality of what can happen. Today's surgery is easy and it is done as an outpatient. See your doctor and do exactly as the doctor says.

they can do an ultrasound to check it or something called a pippida scan. That tells them if there are lots of stones in there. Most people don't get it checked until it is feeling bad. You could go and get it checked out of course anytime you want.

Usually the doctor will order a HIDA scan to evaluate how well your gallbladder is functioning. (You can google HIDA scan to learn more about the procedure)

I never knew I had gallbladder problems until I was doubled over in extreme pain, 2 weeks after delivering my first. The pain was a lot worse than labor. I saw my doctor, who originally thought kidney stones. It was detected by an ultrasound.

For 2 weeks I ate absolutely no fat, no meat, no dairy, just plain veggies and plain pasta and jello - until the surgery.

So what you can do is control your diet - very little fat.

Sonograms show the stones. Really, it is not something you want to ignore. If you let it go too far, you can develop serious complications.
I will say I have upper right abdomen pain even after gallbladder removal.
The gallbladder was filled with stones and hurting lower than this spot before I had surgery. It was not as bad as birth to me, but I did wonder if it was going to burst.

For me, in the beginning my Dr said it was probably indigestion or something stomach related and gave me a prescription for that.
Didn't work, so they did an upper GI and a sonogram to find out. Also write down all your symptoms. On of my big ones was back pain, shooting left and right in the area that my bra is on, but lo and behold I forgot initially to tell the dr that one. Anyway after the sonogram was done same day they asked me if I was having any back pain, I told them what I was feeling and they said yep its gallbladder then. It took a long time before anything was definite though (for operation). Hope you feel relief soon.

There is nothing besides watching what you eat to help gall bladder pain. You may want to google the triggers and diet suggestions. I kept getting misdiagnosed until it became an emergency situation and it is a horrible pain to have to deal with. If you get the opportunity to be able to schedule a surgery to remove your gallbladder I would highly recommend it, rather than waiting. They found my gall stones through an ultra sound and I immediately went to the hospital for surgery, but most people are able to schedule a surgery for a later date of your choosing. Good luck!
