I was wondering if anybody has gotten the Gardasil shots. My OB/GYN really wants me to get it. I have had 2 LEEP procedures, and 4 abnormal paps. I was reading some info on the shot, and read that there have been reports of seizures, and blood clots from it. But all the Gardasil side effects say are sorness at the site. If I am going to get it I need to start before I turn 26 which is June.

What can I do next?

There have been 9 deaths as well. The vaccine is to prevent four strains of HPV, which can cause abnormal PAP smears, among other things. So since you already have abnormal PAP smears I'm not sure why your OB/GYN is pressuring you to get it. I would definitely continue researching it before I made a decision.

Hi T.,

I think it's great that you are questioning the safety of a new vaccine and your OB's advice to get the gardasil. Since it is a new drug on the market it really is still in the experimental stage. The full range of reported side effects of this vaccine won't be known until a full generation of women has received them. The reported side effects on actual women's experiences are just starting to come in now, and somehow you have been fortunate enough to hear about them.
Please consider doing your own research on vaccine safety information sites such as:
www.thinktwice.com
www.nvic.com (national vaccine information center)
www.marytocco.com (local expert on vaccine safety).
Also, if you are feeling pressure, or coersion or any kind of intimidation from your OB, you might want to consider shopping around for a new one. There are many different points of view on women's health care.
Best of luck!
C.

Have you been testing for HPV? My midwife suggested that I get tested...

Anyways, no point to get the vaccination if you've already got HPV.

I have had 2 of the 3 shots. I would compare it to getting a flu shot. One thing is the needle they use for the Gardasil has a spring in it and I believe that can cause irritation so it's kinda tricky administering the shot. I have had no adverse side affects however.
