Gardasil.... Yes or No???

My 10 year old daughter is going in for her check up next Tuesday and I know the Dr. is going to want to give her this shot. I am torn on if I should or not. Its such a new shot and I have read about girls coming down with Gillians Brea from the shot. Though this is rare, my father had it and I dont know if this could mean she is at a higher risk of getting it herself. I am just looking for others thoughts on this shot.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you for your input! I have desided we are not going to let my DR. give her the shot. She is very happy about it :)

I agree with the last response. It is way too new and our society is way to immunization happy.
I have had several friends of older daughters say they were scared to do it since it is so new.

My daughter is nine and I too wondered if our Pediatrician would suggest that we give her the shot, so I ask what her 'stance' on it was. She told me that they can give it to girls as young as 10 or 11, but they don't give it that young unless they are sexually active. (Yes, there are girls that young that are!) She said not to worry about having her get it until she was older.
I personally will wait until she is older (16 or 17), that will also give me more time to weigh the risk-vs-benefits.

If it were my daughter I would say no. It's way too new of a drug. Check out this website.

If there was a chance of Guillan Barret syndrome I wouldn't do it. I suggest a lot more fact finding. Don't let the doctors "talk" you into something. You have the right to say no.

I would get the shot for her. I have the cancer and so did my cousin. Honestly I wish the shot was out there when I married my first husband who I got HPV from. I have been at the doctors every Three months haveing biopsies and the leep done to me I have a son natural and having him hurt way less then the pain, I have gone through in the last 5 years with my problem I haven't had to have a historectomy but my cousin did and she still has problems. We both wish the shot was availible for us maybe he getting the shot at 10 is a little early but around 14 fI would do it. My niece got hers at 14 and we saw no effects. Also talk to your doctor and see what they say
