When I had it removed I started bleeding right away (like within a day or 2) and it lasted for ~8-9 days, which is long for me, but I normally bleed for ~5-6. Also, I had cramping for the day of and after. Congrats
Hi Mamas!
I am getting re-married on April 14th at the courthouse (we're getting married in Mexico but it won't be legal--too much red tape). We will be leaving for Mexico on May 4th. We've decided we would like to start trying for a baby immediately. I already have a 2 and a half year old son from a previous marriage. Anyway, I currently have the Mirena and will need to get it removed. If I have it removed April 14th, what is the likelihood of being on my period in Mexico? Anyone that has had it removed, when did you start your period and how long did it last? Thanks for any info!!

I just had it removed on thursday, and friday started my period. It just depends... Since you already have it in either take it out now and wait or leave it in till the day you get home from mexico. Congrates and I hope it works out =)
I'm pretty sure I got my period a week later and then 2 weeks after that. So, I'd wait. I sure wouldn't want to be on my honeymoon with erradic bleeding!
Will you be in fertile 'mode' while in Mexico? 14 days after the start of your period. That's all that matters. I removed my Mirena when I was ready to concieve and I got pregnant immediately. Unfortunately I dont remember how long or when I got my period after removing it...sorry! Nor do I remember if I got my period before or after I was already pregnant. All my Bf and I do remember is being SHOCKED as to how QUICKLY I started feeling pregnant - my extended PMS symptoms were the dead giveaway - tender/swollen boobs and no period. Just in case, I would remove the IUD about 14 days before the big day...so yeah, I think your plans will work perfectly. Of course that depends on if his swimmers are capable. Sorry, but so many of my friends have been 'trying' and it turns out the men have low-counts. Oh and one more heads-up...I'm not sure if it has anything to do with removing and IUD, but I did experience what seemed like a miscarriage about a couple weeks after the home pregnancy test. There was a chunk of tissue and more blood than usual. I now think it has to do with my body re-regulating itself after not shedding itself (no regular periods) for so long. Good luck! But I'm living proof that removing the IUD does not harm any future attempts of having a healthy baby...IMMEDIATELY!
I had my Mirena removed in December, during my period, as my doctor suggested & had a period (7 days) the next month right on schedule. I then got pregnant the next month. Congratulations & Good luck!
I had the mirena taken out in march of 09 and started my period about a month or two after that. But as a warning it can take up to a year to get pregnant after having it even though It didn't for me. Also your periods may not be regular after having it removed. it take anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months for your hormones to regulate back to normal. So it isn't likely you will get pregnant right away.
After having it removed my periods were regular until august of 09 when I had a really heavy one skipped september had a heavy one late in october and got pregnant during that period. so I would recommend getting it out at least a month or two before you plan on being in Mexico.
Hi There! Congratulations on your marriage! I to got married at the court house and then down in Mexico as well. I agree... way too much red tape! I had the Mirena removed last June (first part of the month) and I did not stop bleeding until the first to middle part of July. Obviously, I am sure everyone is different but that at least gives you some kind of possible time frame. I also have EXTREMELY HEAVY periods for about 4 months after that. I hope it helps and again CONGRATULATIONS AND GOOD LUCK!

I never had periods w/ the Mirena-just bad back labor pains every TOM....anyway that is another subject.(why I got it out) So when I had it taken out, I had a period the next month on the same cycle as when I had it in, very heavy but no cramping. You really don't know how your body is going to react though. I would leave it in and enjoy your honeymoon and get it taken out as soon as you get back. Even though I was on schedule, who wants to be on that when your having fun! Just a suggestion. Congrats!
