So glad you asked this. I've found suggestions for older kids, but not little ones. Got some great ideas!
Looking for creative/fun suggestions to celebrate grandparents day this weekend. Not too expensive gifts, or something easily done by my two year old between now and then. I know, nothing like planning ahead huh!?! We have 2 grandmas and three grandpas to celebrate with, so keeping it short and simple would be best.
Thanks for your ideas!
Thanks for all the advice! I ended up getting cards and letting my little guy "decorate" them with his "own" signature. I found some animal refrigerator magnets at Target that came with paints. He painted the 4 magnets and we will give them to the grandparents with their cards. I fugured it was made by the grandchild, easy for a two year old and the grandparents can display it on the frig. Granted, his idea of painting is still under construction, he had a blast doing it and even decorated the cards with paint on the inside. The magnet set a with paints were only two dollars at Target, so cheap and easy, plus a good time for him. Happy grandparents day to all!

A homemade card: You can cut out shapes (like a heart or stars, etc.) on different colored construction paper and help the 2yo make a card or poster. Use glue sticks or Elmers white glue (non-toxic). Sprinkle some non-toxic glitter on it or other doo-dads. and help the 2yo write "I love Grandma" on it.
If you're 2yo is very verbal and likes to talk, try leaving a message on their voicemail/answering machine. If they turn off their cell phones, do it then.
Invite the grandparents to a picnic at the 2yos favorite park.
Invite the grandparents to the zoo. The one here in Columbus has discount admission on Wednesdays--check to see if yours does.
Print a nice family pic printed and framed (you can get color prints for $0.50 or less, depending on the size), and you can get decent frames at the dollar store.
i had my own children as well as daycare children do this one year for all the grandparents. It requires a decent size photo of your child's head cut out, a paper plate and a tracing of each hand a little way up the arm. You attach the head to the top of your plate (plate acts as a body) and we put a popcicle stck behind the head to keep it from flopping and then attach the hands to the sides of the plate so it appears it is giving a hug. Then on the plate itself write "I love Grandma/Grandpa/you THIS much" all the grandparents loved them. Good Luck.
Someone else posted a short poem about Grandparents Day a few days ago:
Grandparents and grandchildren,
Together they create a chain of love
Linking the past,
With the future.
The chain may lengthen,
But it will never part.
~Author Unknown~
I am going to print this out and my daughter and I are going to create a 'chain' and write special memories on them that she and her brother (who's 1) have had with their grandparents.
Homemade anything is always nice as it shows the child put effort into it also. Pictures of the kids with grandparents in a nice frame. I got a snowglobe where you put a picture inside of it and you can record your child saying something. I had my daughter say I love you Mama. Still makes her greatgrandma tear up everytime she plays it.
Print out some cute coupons for them, like This is good for one day with (grandchild's name) of (whatever activity they'd like to do). Then you arrange the day at the zoo, lunch, class, etc. My DS is doing a coupon for his grandfather to take him to a race. My daughter is doing a coupon for her grandmother to take her out to dinner. (the kids picked these activities). They also do a few others like good for a hug and kiss, good for helping Grammy with housework, good for helping Pappy work in the garage, etc.
GL and have fun making whatever you choose. I know the grandparents will love it!
Golly, I'm a grandparent and I never heard of this day. Of course, I think grandparents should be celebrated every day of the year, but, hey, go for this!
Since you have such short notice, how about a picture of your child pasted on a small white paper doily pre-colored by said child, with a little ribbon glued on the back as a hanger? The paper doilies, ribbon, and glue are easy to find at Walmart or a craft store, and pictures are easy nowadays.
I had no idea people actually celebrated this! We include the grandparents on our Mother's and Father's day celebrations, so I never bother with this one. I wouldn't have even known if you hadn't posted!
How about framing a picture of the child with grandparents as a gift, and having them over for cookies and tea? The children could serve the grandparents cookies on a plate, if more than one child, one could pass out the napkins, one could serve the glasses of tea, etc. Have fun!!
