I try and drink hot green tea as much as I can because of all the health benefits it has. If I'm not drinking that I drink regular lipton cold tea with no sugar and snapple peach tea. I was just wondering if anyone knows does that have the same health benefits as green tea?

Thanks,
T.

What can I do next?

Tea is good for you, but the green has some special stuff in it. I have been drinking 3 cusp of hot green tea with a shot of noney for about 3 mos now and I've lost 20lbs! Have not done anything else to lose weight either! It seems to have an appetite suppresant and has done something good to my metabolism. I'd stick with the green. The brown teas have never had tat effect on me, and I've also read that brown teas can cause kidney stones.

I'd stick with green tea. Not sure of the health benefits if any from lipton reg. tea but here is what I found for ingredients for the Snapple Peach:
Water, high fructose corn syrup, citric acid, tea, natural flavors.

My vote is for the green tea for sure :-) Check out the tea section at Trader Joes if you want to try something different. They have many healthy options for green tea.

* I just went to snapples site the regular tea states they use sugar (23g for 8oz) not hfcs and the diet uses aspartame. Funny how their site says - "Made from the best stuff on earth" um... not!

Green tea is loaded with antioxidants, but I also have a blueberry and a pomegranite herbal tea (Celestial Seasonings) that also have antioxidants in them, since the fruits are antioxidant rich.
I avoid green tea because of the caffine and because the antioxidants in it block the absorbsion of folic acid, which can lead to neural tube defects if pregnant.

Black Tea is good for you too, antioxidants among other things, although not quite so many benefits as green.

Its not clear from your post when you say "regular lipton cold tea with no sugar" whether you are talking about fresh brewed iced tea? Or the ready-to-drink in the bottle, but unsweetened? Or something with an artificial sweetener? Or the powdered mix?

Obviously its better for you if you have it without the sweeteners, real or artificial. You can easily brew the tea yourself and have it iced (Lipton even has one that brews in cold water). Or you can change it up and have a cup or hot black tea here and there instead of always having green.

The main green tea benefits include helping with cancer, infections, high cholesterols issues, impaired immune function, cardiovascular diseases and rheumatoid arthritis.

The components that make drinking green tea bring all these benefits are called catechin polyphenols, and inside this group there is one particular anti-oxidant that stands out among the rest: epigallocatechin gallate or EGCG.

and in lipton regular is packed with so much high fructose corn syrup that the benifits of the actual tea are depleted. Fill a glass up with water and mix in a bunch of sugar, thats about as good as the tea you'd be drinkin is. Check the packets as well, stay away from high fructose corn syrup, use 0 calorie sweetener, and even though its 0 calories, drink it moderatly and not all the time

Make sure you are getting an organic decaffeinated green tea.

Green tea has catechins (which are antioxidants). These can help ward off cell damage which could lead to cancer.

Lipton and Snapple are close but do not compare with green tea. If you're drinking bottled tea, beware for it may be loaded full of sugar, calories, hfcs, and other undesirable stuff.

There was a question on the today show this week that asked "Is cold, bottled green tea (store bought) as good for you as hot, green tea?" and the answer was "not even close!". The medical person said all of the good polythenals (sp?!) are stripped from the green tea to bottle it, mainly because it tastes much better once they do that. She recommended brewing your own green tea, but if you like to drink it cold, to pour it over ice and add a dab of honey to it.

I don't think so. In Asia different teas are considered to have different benefits. Don't know how much science is in that, but is definitely there are strong beliefs.

All teas have very high levels of fluoride and sometimes lead. I would not force yourself to drink tea if you don't like it. I don't avoid it if I want some, but I don't seek it out either. Organic doesn't change the levels either, just the pesticide levels, unfortunately :(

Black tea is supposed to help with fertility, and the berry teas (goji, etc) have antioxidants.

FYI -my dentist says tea stains your teeth.
Last summer I drank several tall glasses of green tea more often than drinking water thinking it would benefit me but I ended up with some nasty stomach problems that went away when I stopped drinking tea. Now I just have it sometimes.
