I'm so glad you posted this--my 1 yr old is starting to do this now, just this week in fact. Good to know that it's common.

i must say this is the most common question i have seen since joining mamasource. It is completely natural and he should stop in a few weeks he is just discovering his new teeth and the things he can do with them.

My son use to grind his teeth when he was younger also. One time when he was at the dentist I told him about it and the dentist told me that if he didn't stop he could give him something to wear so he won't ruion his teeth when he grinds them. I know your son is young, but you could talk to his doctor or call your dentist.
Good luck and I hope you can get help.

My son(8years) has been doing it for years.I have ask the dentist and he said it was normal. They can't use a bite guard until they are much older due to choking concerns.

We just had a dental appointment yesterday. I was told it is very common and not to worry. It might be annoying to us but they are doing this as a release from the stress/stimulus of the day. When they start getting their adult teeth this should lessen since the fit will change between teeth.

Patting their mouths and gently saying "no bite" seemed to work reasonably well for mine. Good Luck

As I posted the same request like a month ago, I have found that there is no way to stop it. It is what it is. It doesnt hurt them, although it hurts our ears. Ignore it as tough as that is. He is teething, and it could go on for a long time. My 14 month still does it all the time.

I would ask the childs doctor or dentist.I don't believe that it's because your child is teething,my husband is 27 and still grinds his teeth in his sleep it is very adgitating. All three of my children also do it and I haven't found a cure myself to this problem. All of my children do it while they are awake or asleep it doesn't make a difference with them.Good luck and let us know what you find out or what works for you.
