It seems people are always getting married. I love weddings. What I don't love is trying to dress my entire family for the wedding.
It seems I am always running around like a crazy person the few days before the wedding trying to find shoes for my sons, and clothes too. And what do I put on the baby? He doesn't want to be uncomfortable in dress clothes, but these are formal weddings.
And then there's me. I have to find a new dress and pronto. Suggestions for a department store to look online? I don't care about price, just quality and fit. I used to have so many cute wedding dresses, but they are all too big now.
ETA: I am looking at dresses. Of course tons of black ones will work, but I am sick of wearing black. Is it faux pas to wear a dress very similar to the color of the bridesmaid dresses if you are simply a guest and not in the wedding?
So - where to look online for dress for me?
What to put on a 6 year old boy and 7 month old boy? Khakis and a polo? Is that dressy enough? (our daughter has plenty of dress up clothes! girls are easy!)
LOL - ok about the money. I was actually just on Nordstrom website and there is a gorgeous dress I want - but it is $368. Um, no. Not unless I can wear it regularly. So to clarify, I don't mind spending a couple hundred on a nice dress - in other words, it doesn't have to be on sale. =) Of course less expensive is better - but to get answers as far as where to look, I didn't want to limit myself in price.

Davids Bridal has the cutest cocktail dresses on sale right now! And you could dress them up OR down, so you'll be able to wear it more than once.
As for the boys, khakis and polos are fine. My son is wearing a hawaiin shirt IN my wedding... as long as kids are clean, they're fine ;)
Wow, I wish money was no object for me and all my clothes were too big. Toughie. :-)
I am a firm believer that babies are not held to a dress code. In the cooler months, they'd be swaddled in a blanket. In the warmer months, your bigger issue is making sure the baby doesn't overheat. I would choose a nice onesie that doesn't have cute sayings printed on it or stained with baby food and call it done. Your suggestion for your six-year-old sounds perfect.
I love Burlington Coat Factory esp for the kids, you may get lucky there too otherwise Macy's! If you are over size 12 Torrid has some beautiful but more trendy coctail dresses. Honestly, if the baby is under 1yo you can get away with a solid onzie, sew a "bow tie" near the neck! I like payless for one time wear shoes myself. The Children's Store is another good option for semi dressy clothes for boys too!
We just went through this two weeks ago. I FINALLY found an appropriate dress at DRESS BARN (no kidding). I shopped for 3 weeks at several stores.
The wedding we went to had a church wedding and then an outdoor reception (with stone covered pavilion). It was also one of the hottest days (97 and HIGH humidity). My husband ended up wearing a polo shirt that matched my dress. I think that only worked because it was an outdoor reception. (He had to take the kids to the hotel an hour into it. It was TOOOOOO hot for them.)
Try Carter's stores for the baby. They make cute dress up outfits for boys, but you have to dig for them. You might look in the clearance area for Easter wear. We found some outfits at Burlington Coat Factory (one of the nicer ones).
And yes. Girls are much easier to dress!!!
Ya know I am getting married in a couple weeks, I doubt I will be able to tell you what anyone wore, well unless they are sporting a muffin top. :p

I like Talbots and Ann Taylor for dresses. They have selections beyond basic black and classic styles that you can wear for years.
For kids, I second the Burlington Coat Factory suggestion. My boys have usually worn either suits or dress pants with a dress shirt, vest and tie. BCF is great for inexpensive suits or pant/shirt/vest/tie combos. The Children's Place also has lovely dress clothes for boys and I've always managed to get stuff on sale. I love TCP because they have coordinating outfits for babies, little kids, big kids, boys and girls. There's nothing like showing up at a function with you kids of all ages and both genders dressed like matching dolls to get the "good mom" nods of approval. And honestly, what's cuter than pin-striped seersucker pants and a tie with sailboats on a little boy?
I think for the 7 month old khakis and polo is enough, but for the 6 year old, I would go shirt and tie, no jacket.
For you, I've always had good luck at Macy's for dresses and Nordstrom always has a good selection.

I would probably look at Macy's or Nordstrom online. The 6 year old would look good in khakis and a polo or button-down shirt. The 7-month old gets a pass--whatever fits. People will love how he looks in anything you put him in.

for boys khakis and a cotton collared shirt. I usually get pale blue or striped - long sleeves is dressier than short and you can fold up the sleeves after the ceremony. Shoes for boys are tough cuz boys rarely wear dress shoes - so it's an expense that you don't get to re-use or rarely. I often buy black sneakers for that reason or go to an outlet store. As for your dress I've also found lately that dressbarn has some good options - not many natural fibers tho so if you're going to be outdoors on a hot day you'd be better off finding a cotton dressy-sundress. polyester & acrylic are so uncomrfatble in hot weather!!! Do you ahve Marshalls or TJ Maxx type stores by you? I've also found that if you have a coupon you can do reasonably well at Macys - again - not sure of the options in your area. I refuse to buy clothes online unless I am very familiar with the label - things fit so differently. I can't tell you how many dresses I bought and sent back for my neice's wedding!

I love Blue Fly, Ann Taylor and J.Crew for wedding dresses for me. We have a place called SYMS in North Texas and I got both my boys beautiful mid - weight blazers there. They have incredible little boy suits and dress items without paying an arm and a leg.
If SYMS is not available to you , I also try to grab good off-season deals at CrewCuts. . .
I think a polo for a summer wedding and a kid is A-OK, but sometimes if later in the eveninig a nice button shirt with khakis and maybe a clip on tie. . . shoe are always our struggle - the boys just want to wear tennis shoes or boots - always - LOL!
