I lost my after school provider last year for my son. I haven't been able to find anyone to pick him up from school yet

My neighbor is picking him up this week so I can get some overtime at work and help out with some high important work. Here is the schedule:
Tuesday-thursday watch him from 2:20-5:30
Friday watch him for an hour
Monday watch him all day starting at 5:30 am till 2:30.

How much do you think I should pay him? He might have to watch him next tuesday thru thursday also.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Wowzers! I had no idea. This is temporary till he finds work and not only that, I am helping out on a special project that will hopefully be scannable next time. They needed people who could pay close attention to detail and High QC is required.

I pay babysitter's 10.00/hour...that's pretty much the going rate. Daily rate might be 50.00/day. So maybe 130.00 for the schedule you're talking about. I think prices vary a bit in different areas so you may want to ask around and see what other people pay a reputable babysitter.

Wowzer, In my area childcare centers charge $5-$8 an hour, as I am not licensed I charge $4 an hour, (I don't pick up) You also have to figure in gas money and his time starts when he leaves to go and pick him up. Is he providing care in your home or his? If his then you have to figure in a snack.

Do you have a set range in mind? If so why not ask him what he feels is appropriate, and if he low balls it you can pay him more and he will be more than willing to help out in the future. Or, if it's to high say something well I kinda had this in mind?

Babysitters here charge between $10 - $15 an hour. If it's a sitter's house where there are more than one kid, the cost is less - perhaps $60 a day.

If you wanted to go on the low end since it's not a Saturday night babysitter (those always charge $15/hr by me), I'd probably pay $30 each for Tues/Wed/Thurs this week, $10 for Friday, and $90 for Monday. Grand total $130.

Childcare really varies based on location. I'd say 50-75 a week, for the 20 hours of care you need, depends on how well you know the neighbor, is this a regular favor from a friend or is he expecting to actually profit. Where I live in Ohio, childcare isn't more than 2-3$ an hour for a school age child.

An average rate around here is $10/hour.

My 17 yr old averages $12-$15 per hour. She babysits for about 3 different families for the parents to go out on date nights each weekend.

Ask and get a feel for what expectations your sitter has. Does she have to drive to the school (wear/tear on car, gas expense for her).

If anything, overpay vs underpay. If you underpay, you won't have a sitter for long.
