Hair Thinning? - Rochester,MI

My hair is thinning. I've noticed lately that I can see my scalp though my hair in the front when I look in the mirror -- never could before. I also notice my ponytails are skinnier and I constantly am managing strands of hair on my clothes, furniture, clumps in the shower, etc. I went to the doctor for a general checkup and mentioned it. He did thyroid tests and they all came back normal. His other thought was stress. He didn't seem concerned, but I'm concerned! I don't want it to get worse. Any ideas for other reasons this could be happening? Thank you!

What can I do next?

I am 33 and my hair seems to have been thining for the last 5 years. I was worried that it was my throid. My doc said that all of my tests were in the normal range limit. However, I had a lot of other similar symptoms related to hypothyroidism (besides weight) such as cold and blue extremeties regardless of temp. I went to a different doc and was retrested with what I was told was a more sensitive test. I was low. I got some medicine which seems to help - but I still seem to leave hair everywhere. I also have a very stressful job and have experienced traumatic family events, ie death. Someone told me that the average person loses 100 hairs a day - don't know if this helps but this is my experience.

When I hit about 32 my hair started thinning and getting curlier. By thinning I mean the hair shaft became more fine when I used to have course hair. So my pony tails are skinnier and I can see a bit more scalp but there are still the same number of hairs up there.

I have always shed like a dog in the spring. :)

I think it is just an age issue which would explain why the doctor isn't concerned.

have you hit 30? horomones, age, stress, diet, and health all play this part. I have thinning hair. Had since 29. Changed diet, added suppliments, and started a regimen called Nioxin. Helps with stopping the thinning. Doesnt grow hair back, but conditions the scalp and helps hair become stronger and healthier. I was also told by a dermatologist, that if I loose weight, stop eating greasy foods, and focus on hair growing foods. It can be reversed, but I will not get the thickness back that I once had. At least I am not bald, and now a days there are some awesome wigs out there! better than my natural hair LOL
