have you tried looking for a Chewbacca (Star Wars) costume. He's big and hairy...it would definitely pass for a Big Foot costume. Or try doing a search for Yeti costumes. Good luck!
My 6 yr old son, Jordan, wants to be "Bigfoot" this year for Halloween, but I'm having a lot of trouble finding a costume like that. I know he'll be disappointed if I tell him I can't find a Bigfoot costume, so I need some help in making one. Can anyone out there help me? Thanks!

Make one, make it out of brown paper bags that you can get from a grocery store. cut them into strips and past on another paper bag. (for the head anyhow). Than find a brown sweat outfit and tape or pin the strips of paper bag to his pants and sleeves or you can take black permanent marker and make it look like hair on his sweat outfit. You can also paint his face brown and black. (Just coming up with this on top of my head...lol..at this moment). Other than that you can go to familyfun.com or about.com and search for home made monster costumes. Good luck!
i just read a craft book for making fuzzy bear suits, so you might be able to tailor it a bit for bigfoot. it says to get brown fabric that can fray easily when washed, cut strips that are 4-6 inches wide & the length that can be sewn around his legs on his pants. then cut about 1-2 inch wide strips after you've sewn the fabric to his pants(i used heat & bond-it's iron on glue), then you machine wash it until the fabric is as frayed as you want it. you can use the same technique for his shirt. the glue is about 2.00 for 5 yrds & walmart always has fabric for a dollar a yard(3ft long 45-52 inches wide). good luck.
I make most of my kids halloween costumes, you'd be surprised how easy it is. JoAnn Fabrics has lots of hairy fabric. For the pattern, I use a sweatsuit or pajama pattern. Usually I make the sweatsuit, that way they can wear the top again if they want to. We had Tigger and Blues Clues that way, I made Elmo out of a pajama pattern before, but I'm remaking it this year from a top and bottom. It's pretty easy to do a hooded sweatshirt and pull on pants, then just make a pair of feet that pull down over the top of boots, like spats. You can paint his face the same color as the fur, he may have to remind people of who he is, but not many people would guess bigfoot anyway. Have fun, that's the whole point of this tradition!
Hi P.!
You might be able to use a Chewbacka costume(sorry about the spelling) the furry creature from Star Wars. It would still have the big foot look to it. Just do not add the guns, etc. To help others depict what he is, maybe you or some one else could dress up as a hunter or scientist - with a sign - in search of big foot.
Good Luck!

I would say try to find a brown sweatsuit of brown footed pj's...maybe even add some of that "fun fur" to it to make it fluffy.
If you can find a Chewbacca or gorilla outfit you can make a few adjustments and you have the BigFoot.
Good luck.
they have them on ebay I just found them. 99% of them are for grown men but I am sure you might be able to alter the costume. Hope this helps.. just type in bigfoot halloween costume.
depends on his sense of humor.... you could make a cardboard cut out of a HUGE foot with his face showing out of it.... thus big foot....
or joans has fabric that is brown fur---------
Just use a bear or cat costume, leave off the ears and tail; use the furiest material you can find at JoAnn's. Paint his face and hands brown to match, or you can make some gloves and footies to match.
Do you live anywhere near Deer Park in Ohio? - I could possibly do the job for you.
Good luck.
Walmart has fabric that looks like Shag carpet in the brown color. All you would have to do is measure from his shoulders to above ankles to allow walking room, multiply this times 2 and add another 1/2 yard to apply to arms and make face mask, cut fabric for length needed for main body, fold it in half, cut a hole for his head and stitch down the sides leaving openings for arms to slide through, have him wear a brown long sleeve shirt underneath. Stitch fabric over shoulder to cover arms, and make head piece basically the same way, but use velcro to close at the back of the head for good fit. Hope you have fun doing this. Should be an easy Saturday afternoon project.
Maybe you could find a small gorilla suit?
Hi, P. -
In my neck of the woods, we practically LIVE at the kids consignment store called Once Upon a Child. They have a good selection of used kids' costumes there, and I bought one yesterday for my daughter, who wants to be a lion this year.
I think a head-to-toe costume like a lion would be a great start as a base for a bigfoot costume. As for enhancing it with bigfootedness - that's a tougher question. But, if you have a nice hairy suit to start with, that would be an advantage.
Also, a few years ago, my husband and I found some awesome hairy fabric at a fabric store - like Orangutan fur. That would be a great addition to the pre-existing costume, I'd think.
Hope this helps!

The only way I know to make a costume would be to get a pattern. If not for that particular one, then something close or PJs with feet that you could make look like bigfoot. Have you taken your son to look at the costumes? Sometimes they change their minds when they see them.
I know what you mean about working. I worked most of my kids lives. I quit last year, at age 51, but my youngest child is almost 18 now. At least you have given them a great example. Boys have to work every day until they retire.
God bless you!
Maybe you can ask your son what he thinks Bigfoot looks like. Get some input from him. Maybe have him draw you a picture. Then, you can go from there. Depending on the color of "Bigfoot", you could always use a brown paper sack turned upside down with a slit up one side and a hole in the bottom of the sack for his neck. It'll end up being kind of like a vest. Then, he could wear the appropriately colored pants. As for the rest, maybe go with his ideas. Maybe use some kind of hat decorated with ears or yarn for fur or something for his head, and maybe find some oversized "monster" slippers or his favorite big slippers for feet. Even some of your or your fiance's shoes might work for his "big feet", too. Really, though, I think it would be most fun for him if he was able to tell you what he wants to do and try to come up with creative ways to carry out his idea. Hope you have fun with it!
P.:
I just got a catalog from CostumeExpress.com - they have an Adult BigFoot costume in the catalog - Item 289753 - you can check it out online and see if they have a kids version, if not, maybe it could serve as the inspiration for you making one. Good luck,
J.
How about looking for a chewbacca costume from star wars and changing it up a little?
Make a very simple one out of a blanket sleeper. Best costumes are handmade. Either stitch or hot glue felt cut into hairy strips. More the marrier. Or if your really craftty go to the dollar store and find an old rag mop and try dying it briown with some black mixed in. and glue it on the sleeper. If you don't want to take a chance on ruining a good one check out yardsales while there still about or go to goodwill or such. You could also very carefully saftey pin them from the inside. That way you could take them off. but with younger ones I would worry about this. Get some brown netting at the fabric store onlt costs pennies. and do up a face mask and attach it to a hood you could always buy a pattern for the hood. Watch for 99 cent sells or try to borrow one. I am sure evryone into 50's oldies recalls the Flying Purple People eater song. Well I made a hood and a mask out of netting for my son to the the Flying purple People Eater at a concert. He could still see to get about thought the netting. It was such a big hit. He had one eye one horn and it was all purple. You could not make out his face from the seats and little ones were so scared the parents loved it. He was used for years to make little ones mind. Good luck. Need more info or and hand or 2 if your in the Cincinnati Area I could meet with you to help.
You could just buy a black sweatsuit and then glue brown fur to it (I think they sell spools of furry material at craft stores, you can cut it into the shapes and sizes you want). You could do the same thing with some black gloves and shoes. You could probably find a gorilla or other big foot type mask at a Halloween store. Maybe your son could pick out the mask?
Maybe you can look for a Chubaca (sp) costume- from Star Wars. That kind of looks like big foot.
Hey P.. My boy loves to dress-up, everything from a police man to a Ghostrider. We have learn to make things from what we have around the house. I would use a brown or black sweat suit. Take a knit hat and run some long strands of matching yarn thru the top and knot into place, let them hang down over his shoulders. And paint his face brown too, for fun!
