Maybe you could get him a tan or gray sweat suit and a coolie hat (http://www.stagesupply.com/cgi-bin/ccp5/cp-app.cgi?pg=pro.... At 3 the adult hat should give him the look of a mushroom.
My son's school is putting on a school concert in a couple of weeks. My son's class are all going to vegetables. He was picked to be a mushroom. I need some ideas on how to make this outfit.
Any ideas & suggestions from you moms would greatly be appreciated!!
I do have a sewing machine & can sew very amateurly.
Thanks!! :-)

I would go look at patterns. In the back of pattern books they have costumes. One may be a clown that you could use velcro on the opening of the back. then I would find lamp stiffening and make a huge collar for the mushroom cap. May be some iron on real stiff backing like for stand up collars. Fabric people can help you. use tissue paper to make a pattern. Line it and basically make it like a circular skirt. good luck and call me if you have trouble. ###-###-#### G. W

Perhaps you could just make the mushroom cap and dress your son in a white sweat suit.
Irene, of Sew Nice, might be able to help you out if the pattern is too difficult. She is an excellent seamstress. Since the concert is so soon, contact her ASAP (____@____.com) if you'd like her to make the costume.
I'm wondering if you could have child wear tan or brown sweatsuit and buy a like-colored umbrella for the mushroom cap. You could attach umbrella handle under sweatshirt in the back with medical tape or belts with the cap of the mushroom just showing above his head.
Good luck!
For the body, take an ivory pillowcase, cut out neck and arm holes and cover raw edges with binding (use either ivory or brown). For the mushroom cap, cover a round pillow-form with ivory felt. If you want to make it sit down on his head you can cut a hole on one side of the form and stitch an insert into it. Attach strips of binding to use as ties. You can either cover the underside of the mushroom cap with brown felt or use a brown marker or fabric paint to make the stripes.
You could make the body portion out of felt if you wanted it all to match exactly. Have you son wear brown pants and light brown shirt underneath.
if you can get ahold of a chefs hat you could use that as a pattern for the mushroom cap, and use cream material to make a tube "dress" type bottom for the shoot. Good Luck.
Cover an umbrella, to carry, with batting and material. Let him wear the same color clothes, goves and stuff as the material :) Not much help but Im in a hurry. Sorry
