Halloween Emergency -Minimul Supplies, No Time

My daughter was on the fence about Trick- or -Treating for the last month. She is 14. Her friend just talked her into Trick or Treating (mainly just hanging out and walking around, I'm sure). She didn't do anything for a costume, though!
Our supplies are very limited, as most everything is still in storage from moving and I won't have access to a vehicle until about 5:30 or 6 tonight. We are light complected folks, so most of the makeup in the house is lighter (there goes zombie). We don't have much extra material laying around. Do any of you have any ideas?! She thought about maybe tying her hair into little "ears" on her head and eye-lining whiskers and a nose... but no tail?! Hmmm

Anyway, if you have any thoughts, I'd love to hear them!

Happy Boo Day, Everyone!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I understand at her age, she can manage on her own. I was simply asking if anyone had the imagination to toss out some ideas that she can decide on, if she so wishes.

When we moved from California to Wisconsin 18 yrs ago I had a similar situation. My kids were younger but Halloween kinda jumped up at me. I had so much going on I totally forgot about costumes ect. My daughter was about 8, I took a hair net and bobby pinned rollers into it, had her put on her bathrobe and tucked her hair up in the hair net did a smear job with some red lipstick and she went out as a distressed housewife.

One year I dressed all in pink and put a child's resin chair on my head (could also use a shoe) and I was a piece of bubble gum stuck on the bottom of a chair.

Another year I took a big box, cut off top and bottom, wrapped it in Christmas wrap, put a bow on the front, stapled straps for my shoulders and dressed all in black and I was a walking Christmas gift. If the box is big enough you could just cut in arm holes and one for the head and slip it over her head.

I hope this helps. Have fun

I saw a great costume when I was in college - take an old t-shirt and draw a giant P on the front of it. Use smeared eyeliner to make a black eye. Voila! She's a black-eyed pea...

My daughter did Bat Girl, last minute, last night. (she wore it to school this morning).

Black long sleeved shirt (print out a bat emblem and tape it/pin it/glue it to the shirt), black skirt or black skinny pants, black shoes. Then take a garbage bag and cut one side and scallop the edge for a cape. My daughter used black eyeliner to DRAW a mask around her eyes. She looked great.

She can wear a white sheet as a ghost or tie it as a toga (she can wear something dark underneath it).

Does she have a fancy dress? Be a princess! Make a simple tiara or buy one.

Jeans, flannel shirt, boots, some "freckles" and her hair in braids or pigtails - farmer.

A suit - a teacher, a lawyer or a businesswoman.

Pin stuffed cats to her and she's the "crazy cat lady".

Wrap her in gauze and she's a modern mummy.

Put her in shorts, sneakers and a t shirt and a ponytail and pin a number to her back - marathon runner.

Tape an old cereal box to her and put a plastic knife in it - "cereal" killer.

Dress all in black with glow in the dark or paper stars attached - a constellation.

Or have her partner with a friend and wear what the friend does - in black (if her friend wears a skirt, so does she, but in black). Follow the friend around and be a shadow.

If you have a long white coat, she could be a scientist or doctor or vet.

Paper ears (make triangles that are rounded on the bottom and then slit the round part so you can fold them in) on an old headband with a wire hanger wrapped in fabric tape or patterned duct tape for a tail, and she can be an animal.

Wear a suit, carry a watch (or a cut out of a pocket watch) with bunny ears and she's Alice's White Rabbit.

One year I put my hair in 2 pony tails, drew freckles on my face, wore sweats and called by self a baby. If she has a teddy bear to carry, even better.

I saw someone go as static cling. Wear all white or all black and use safety pins to attach socks to the outfit.

She could also wear all black and then draw whiskers on her face like you said. Make ears and a tail out of yarn? Make pompoms. Attach the ears to a headband.

Pin a photo of herself, from when she was like a baby and current day.... and pin it onto the front a t-shirt that she will be wearing. Use a safety pin.
You/she can pin as many photos of herself onto her t-shirt as you wish. Or print out the photos from the computer if you don't want to use a real hard-copy of her photos.
And she can be a walking photo history of herself.
It is also very cute.

She's 14. If she wants to improvise a costume, SHE needs to do it herself.
That said, the hair ears and make-up whiskers sounds fine.

When my 12yr old daughter's original costume idea fell through, she dressed herself up in all black, stuck on some dark sunglasses and called herself a spy. As far as I was concerned, it wasn't a costume at all, just a cool outfit that someone would wear out to a club or something. But when I dropped her off at her friend's house, a bunch of them came running out saying "OMG, Kate, you're a SPY! COOL!" so they got it, even though I didn't...

Bag of garbage. Cut leg holes and arm holes in a large garbage bag, stuff the garbage bag with crumpled newspapers, and tape it shut around her neck. Or cut arm holes and a head hole in a large paper lawn composting bag, tie around the waste and be the Paper Bag Princess.
