My daughter is 6, an only child and doesn't enjoy trick or treating by herself (of course I go with). She didn't enjoy going to Burnsville Mall last year either. There was huge lines at the stores and you got like nothing hardly. Unfortunately taking a friend with probaly wouldn't happen because they would be with their families. We actually have problems finding houses passing out candy too. We've trick or treated in Oakdale, Woodbury, Burnsville, Savage and most houses are not doing candy it's like 1 in 6 will have their lights on.
Passing out candy at home wouldn't work to well either, we don't get many kids at our house. Although she expresess interest in doing so.
Having a party at our house I'm just not up to this year.
Sorry to sound so lame and boring but where can I bring her? I love to dress her up and want it to be fun and festive? Do any communities do parties or anything? When I was a kid Halloween was the coolest thing the world and now days it's like kids just don't trick or treat anymore.
It's really hard for us to find things to do on Holidays we lack family and friends with kids.
I've heard MOA has a Halloween thing but is it absolutely crowded where you can't enjoy yourself? Is it worth going? That is one option.
Go to Familyfun.com they have a lot of great craft and treat ideas. Sign up for their free emails of ideas. I get them all the time and they come in real handy.

I live in Minneapolis and saw that there is a Halloween celebration at Minnehaha Falls on Saturday, October 27th from 4-6pm. It costs $2 per person or $10/family max. There will be music, hayrides, Marshmallow roasting, a trail of costumed characters, etc. It is through the Minneapolis Park and Rec Board (www.minneapolisparks.org)

Our community's ECFE always puts on a Halloween party on the Friday before Halloween. You might want to check if your community does that.
Our neighborhood is dieing for children. Almost every house has candy and there are only a few kids around. So mine always have tons of candy at the end of the night. But that other ladies West St. Paul area sounds like lots of fun.
The Eden Prairie Mall also does the candy and treat thing just on a smaller, less crowded basis. I've taken my kids there for years and they love it!

The Minnesota Zoo offers something interesting.. there ae tables set up for trick or treaters to stop by and grab a little treat.. but what I thought was cool is that you get to go thru some of the animal exhibits (at night) and it was really very fun to see cuz' the animals were pretty active. Just a thought.. we went there last year with my son who was 4 at the time-- he liked it.

Our neighborhood always has a ton of kids and we see a lot of the same families every year. I also have a 6 year old girl in 1st grade so if you want to join us you are more than welcome :)
I too have an only child but we have a ball going trick or treating. We usually go over to the West St Paul area, Smith Avenue, they seem to really have alot of people into it over there. It is quite a drive for me but always worth it. We also go to our local community center for the party there.
MOA is way too packed. We went last year and you can forget about pushing a stroller around or even walking through the mall. It was nuts and told myself that we would never go back.
I grew up in the West St. Paul/South saint paul/Inver grove area and we always got lots of candy and had fun trick or treating. Maybe try trick or treating in a neighborhood that has a school in it. I do know that the River Hills neighborhood in Burnsville/eagan border is great. There are tons of families and lots of trick or treaters. Its located on HWY 13 and River Hills Road, or you can get there from Cliff as well. There are two sides to the neighborhood, either side would be good, but I would stick to the East side.
Also the childrens museum has trick or treating too, not sure if a 6 year old would enjoy it though.
