Have You Ever Passed Out?

Just wondering if I should be concerned. Think I am going to see the doctor but can't really pinpoint what caused it. I have never passed out before but did last night. I was laying in bed and got a dull pain in my rectum that I have gotten before. So I got up to walk around and ended up passing out. When I came to I broke out into a cold sweat and then was fine. I've gotten the pain before and it has just goen away so I don't know that they are linked. Had some migraines last week but didn't have one last night. Any thoughts? What could cause me to pass out? Talked to a friend and I have been under some stress lately so she said that could have been a reason too.

What can I do next?

Here's just one entry (wikipedia) for Proctalgia Fugax. Sounds like it might fit your situation:

"During an episode, the patient feels spasm-like, sometimes excruciating, pain in the anus, often misinterpreted as a need to defecate. … It is recurrent and there is also no known cure. … It is not known to be linked to any disease process and data on the number of people afflicted varies, but is more prevalent than usually thought. … The pain episode subsides by itself as the spasm disappears on its own, but may reoccur.

"Sometimes there is a drop in blood pressure that may cause loss of consciousness and possible injury. Staying down is suggested if in bed, and lying down is recommended."

I've had episodes of this, but without fainting.

I use to pass out all the time as a teenager due to low iron and heat.

The feeling of pain in your rectum while you were lying down and the subsequent passing out concerns me. I don't know how old you are, but I think you need to get a colonoscopy done. You don't have to have blood in your stool to not have a problem. OR you could have blood in the stool that is undetected to your eye.

The other possibility is that you have vaso vagal syncopy. However, that doesn't account for the rectal pain.

As far as "me" and passing out is concerned? Yes, I have passed out. And mine has to do with vaso vagal response to my blood pressure going down too fast. What I found to be helpful is to drink plenty of water early in the morning.

I also have menopausal dizziness, mom. Put these two together and life is fun sometimes... LOL!

Seriously though, please get to the doctor and talk about all of this. Get that colonoscopy. Colon cancer is the easiest cancer to prevent, really and truly.

You probably should talk to your doc about this.
A quick google search found a possible condition: Proctalgia Fugax
I'd never heard of this "butt" apparently it can be quite painful!

I have passed out from what I think was a combination of low blood sugar and being overheated.

It's possible that you could have had low blood sugar since it happened in the night, but since you've had this recurring pain in your bottom,
I think you should make an appt with your doctor.

This *exact* thing happened to my husband. He's often complained about the pain in his bottom, but getting up and walking around usually eases it. One time he passed out while walking to the bathroom and fell head first into the door (BIG gash that required 5 stitches). He's gone to the doc before about the pain and they've never found anything wrong. My MIL has the same pains, but has never passed out.

I'd still definitely go see the doc, just to get checked out. But don't immediately assume "I'm dying!" if they can't find anything specific wrong.

A trip to the doctor is exactly what you should be doing but be prepared to not get a difinitive answer.

I have passed out 3 times in 12 years and each time there was no solid cause for it. Sure, lots of things could have contributed (stress, dehydration, low blood sugar, etc.) but there were no arrows pointing to a major cause like disease or tumor. And while I would have wanted a confirmed reason I was happy there was nothing majorly wrong with me.

I have suffered from Migraines all of my life and my last fainting spell was two days after a Migraine so I didn't immediately factor that into the cause but when I sat down and thought about my Migraine symptoms and how traumatic they are to my body I can see how passing out might happen when my system is trying to regulate itself.

They'll check your blood sugar, urine, blood pressure and probably do an EKG and an MRI just to be sure. Hope you feel better!

There are a lot of things that can cause you to pass out. I usually pass out if I stand up too quickly or if my blood sugar is low. Since you were lying down, I'd say it's possible you just got up too quickly. Concerned about the dull pain and the cold sweat. Was there anyone with you to see what happened when you were passed out? I wonder if there was a seizure involved or simply passing out. I've passed out probably a dozen or so times in my life, but it was never because of anything serious that I'm aware of.

I've had the dull pain in my rectum before. I've had it a lot recently. However I would describe it as a sharp pain. It goes away, and I'm not that worried about it, because I get yearly colon cancer screenings.

I've only passed out from extreme pain. I would be a little concerned about randomly passing out. A trip to the dr. won't hurt.

I am concerned. It's time for a good doc visit.

Aneurism comes to my mind and that could be totally wrong.
But they don't necessarily come with symptoms before being a huge problem. Get to your doc, yesterday.
