If she can have water- give her some, ask can she have ANY clear liquids if yes- give her apple juice, crystal light etc.. I would not do this all the time but for one night.
Hope this helps.

Hi Moms,
Tomorrow my 8 1/2 month old daughter is getting tubes put in her ears. My question is not about her tubes, I've been that route with my son almost a year ago. My question is, how do you tell an 8 month old she may not eat after midnight?? My daughter stopped sleeping through the night right around when she started having ear infections. The only way to comfort her is to give her a few ounces. I'm plkanning on loading her up with as much formula as I can around 11:45, but other than that I have no idea what to do.
Thanks in advance ladies!

Will she take a pacifier? You may have a rough night ahead of you. Maybe she could sleep with you for the night for the comfort. Both of you will need a nap after the surgery!
Good luck. A little late to get you advice as you are there right now. I hope it went well. That is a tough one for a kiddo so young. My son was older when he got his tubes.
H., I hope everything went smoothly?! I didn't get your post until right now. Best of luck.

I'm guessing you went yesterday and if so, I hope it went well. But if it's next monday, they said I could nurse my son, that was fine, just to nurse the last time before like 5 am (I think he's tubes were at 7 am). they may have the sample thing for formula, call the doctor. If not they should allow you to give water or pedialyte. Good luck
Hi H.,
Just a quick note... what time is your daughter having her tubes put into her ears.... sometimes if it is not until later in the morning they will allow small amounts of fluid.. check with your doctor and explain your dilema... or maybe a passifier would work .... just a guess...
good luck... I will pray all goes well...
Hi H.,
My son had tubes put in last month, at 11 months old. He was actually allowed to have clear fluids up to four hours before the surgery. So you might want to check on that. Also, because of his age, he was scheduled for surgery very early (7:30) and we just distracted him with toys and playing with him up until that time. Once he had the surgery, he wasn't overly hungry right away since anesthesia is a natural appetite suppresant anyhow. Overall, we were impressed with how well he handled it, so your daughter may surprise you. Also, don't wake her up until the latest possible time you can. I bathed my son the night before and just kept him in his pajamas in order to let him sleep later. Hope this helps and good luck!
Many doctors don't tell their patients the reasons for the ear infections. Many times infections are a symptom of allergies and cows milk is the number one allergy. If you can't breastfeed, perhaps you should try a different formula. Have you tried a soy formula? I'm guessing the allergy runs in the family since your son had it too. Some allergies kids grow out of. I know about this because I have allergies and so did our children. Ann
Good Luck!!!! In our prayers.
why would you discuss it with an eight month old? she's not going to understand what you'r saying anyway. does she normally eat after midnight? the filling her up should do it..
My son (20 months) just had dental surgery this past Monday. He couldn't eat past midnight - but he could have fluids up until 3 hours beforehand. They usually make exceptions for infants (ESPECIALLY since the tubes is such a quick surgery) - so I would double check.
