Congrats! Actually, higher hcg levels (and more than doubling) are most often NOT multiples. There's a beta site that gives all of the stats (I don't know it by heart), you can find it by searching the internet.
I went to the emergency room tonight thinking I was having a miscarriage but thankfully I'm not. The Dr. there tested my HCG level by blood and compared it to the level from 2 days ago. She said that the level more than tripled. I'm 4 weeks and the level from 2 days ago was 106 and the level today was 314. Is that normal? Since it rose so quickly, is that a sign of having twins?
Thank you everyone for easing my mind. Don't know if I'm having twins but will find out on June 8th. I really doubt it. I have another question though. I'm up to 6 wks pregnant and have been extremely nauseated and exhausted feeling. I have 2 sons and wasnt nearly as sick while pregnant with them..if sick at all.My mother and other female family members are convinced it's a girl because they said they were the same way when they were carrying girls. Is there any truth to being extremely nauseated and exhausted the more likely it is to be a girl? And what home remedies or anything at all for that matter that will ease the nausea? It lasts all day and the only time I don't feel nauseated is when I feel so worn down and exhausted to the point I can't keep my eyes open. Please I'll try anything to make this go away!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If your HCG levels were off the charts they would do an ultrasound to see if there was more than one baby. This sounds normal to me, but you're still very early in your pregnancy. You should be getting an ultrasound around 6 weeks and they always look for multiples.
I went to http://www.betabase.info/ to check out my HGC levels when I was pregnant. Hope it's helpful.
If I remember correctly, that's a perfectly normal rise. Levels double every 48 hours in early pregnancy, up to (I think) about 9,000, then start to drop at the end of the first trimester. If you get a heartbeat at the 6-7 week ultrasound, you have an excellent chance of going full-term. Hang in there, and AVOID CAFFEINE!!!!
I think it normally doubles or triples every couple of days. Don't quote me on this, but it prolly isn't an indication of twins. Glad to hear your little one is ok!
I do not think that indicates twins. It is good that your HGC levels are high. They should increase over time. You will be fine. Enjoy and relax. Do not stress yourself or the new baby out. Stress is not good when pregnant. You will find out if you are having twins when you go for your first official ultrasound. Congrats.
I wouldn't worry about it at this point. I think they can grow considerably in the first few days of pregnancy. For one thing, the baseline is relatively low to begin with, so the "tripling" effect happens for easily. For example, take the numbers 1 and 10...10 is TEN times the number 1, but both are on the small side. I'm NOT trying to imply that your HCGs are low, just that they're low enough where the fact they tripled doesn't really mean much in regards to twins.
I had high HCG levels when I was pregnant and did get an ultrasound to see what was happening in there! I think at about 5 weeks, my HCG level was over 75,000. My doctor said twins were a possibility, but he didn't think I had twins because he's seen the HCGs go as high as 150,000 at that point in time. It turned out he was right; I just had 1!
You're only 4 weeks along, so don't worry about this just yet. It sounds like your HCGs are going up at a good rate, which means the pregnancy is viable and progressing well! That's great news!
I too had very high levels and thought maybe twins, but there was only 1!
I went from 190 to 550 in 2 days, and it was just one.
I am unsure without doing some research but some good references for me when I was pregnant were:

Hope these help :)

Here is a web site that has a chart for HCG levels. I googled pregnancy HCG levels and got many site addresses. This is the first one I clicked on.
Renee H. is correct. HCG levels double every 30 hours. I also noticed that there is a very broad range for normal levels.
