My boyfriend J. picked up emmy and right away she tells him that she was in gym and a kid through a football and it hit her right in the forehead. she said the teacher ran over and asked if she was ok and she was silent for a moment and then said yea. e told her to get a drink and sit down. She said she did J. that and that her head hurt the rest of the entire day and still does.

Could a kid throwing a football in first grade into another kids head give them a concussion

so far she said her stomach didnt get upset and she didnt fall over
she also doesnt have a bump

she got a concussion at two...got knocked out, no bump but threw up and got sleepy...so i'm a bit paranoid in the hitting the head department

advice? answers?

i realize its J. a wait and see game.
when she had the concussion before the doctor in the ER recommended no ct scan since after the throwing up and the other stuff she seemed normal and they said ct scans increase chance of cancer so she monitor her...so i realize going to the doctor or er is not going to do anything.

What can I do next?

Tylenol, not Motrin. Cold compress where she got hit. Keep her hydrated. If she doesn't act different than normal, no disorientation, it's J. a rattle and bump.

This is what my family doc recommends whenever my son gets a bump in the head.

Hope this helps.

I'm no doctor, but to M. it J. sounds like she got what my boys would call "a good bell ringing." If her only symptom is that her head hurts, that's probably all there is to it. Give her some tylenol and see if she has any complaints after that. Hopefully she feels better soon!

Shine a light in her eyes and see if they react to the light and then look at her pupils and see if they are the same size. I guess it could cause one but most likely not. But J. keep an eye on her and give her something for her head. I am sure that it probably jarred her neck which can cause a headache on it's own.

I have found concussions depend on the kid. Christine has been kicked in the head god knows how many times, her nose broken three times from that, still no concussion. Soccer goalie, no she was not hated by that many people. :-/

There were other girls she played with that got concussions from J. a good hit from the ball.

So yeah, wait and see.

If you are worried that she might have a concussion then treat her as though she does have a concussion. In case of a concussion the doctor will normally instruct you to: Have her rest for a day. Limit her sports activities for the next week. Apply ice to the injury. Give her Tylenol for the pain. Call the doctor if she has nausea or vomitting, passes out, has difficulty waking up, acts confused etc. It is not likely she has a concussion though by the sounds of it.

Yes. Depending on how far away, how hard etc. I would let her doctor know and give her tylenol or motrin for pain. Wait and see. If she shows any signs of extreme drowsiness, vomiting etc. then bring her to be seen by doctor. Hope this helps!

No, she wouldn't get a concussion from being hit in the head by a football thrown by another first grader. She would have to be hit with much more force than a first grader would be able to deliver.

Have you looked at her eyes? See if they look exactly the same, and if they dilate the same. Did you call the ped and let him or her know what happened?

:( I hope all is well.
