UGH! before we had kiddies and a small business, my hubby would have had this fixed in about a day! :) but alas... my problem is that the heater fan in my minivan is stuck on high, it turns off completely when I switch to a lower setting, the heater is still on, but it wont blow anymore. so, it's either freezing or a sauna! grrrrr! maybe someone has had this happen? I'm used to not having to bring my car in, but I will if this doesn't pan out!! (BTW...it's a 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan) Any leads would be super!! Thanks!!

What can I do next?

Hi K.,
I have a dodge Intrepid and the same thing happened about 3 months ago. My husband won't let me bring it anywhere and yet I'm waiting for him to fix it. Well soon it will be warm and I have a feeling it won't get fix anytime soon. All I know is my mother in law also had the same problem and it was a resititor (sp)?? I will wait to see if you get any other responses.

I can't know for sure without it being tested and I don't have access to Alldata right now, but it is probably the resistor unit for the fan. But depending on the type of system it could be more complicated. My husband's repair shop can help you out if you want, but I don't know where you are in the Cities. Email me privately if you need more advice or want me to do more research this weekend (send me which size engine it has). I'll be at a broomball tourney most of today but I can check on more tomorrow.

P.S. I was a service manager at dh's car repair shop before becoming a SAHM. I'm a little rusty but usually in the ballpark:)

I know what it is, but I'm waiting for a return phone call about the name of the thing thats broken. If you heat (or a/c) will turn on high only, it's a speific part that needs to be replaced. It's easy to do, but the avg. Joe probably doesn't have the parts to do the replacing....

I'll repost when I get my callback. Should be today.

On GM vehicles it's called a resistor for the motor blower! Good luck everyone!

It sounds like it might be the fan switch, it happened in my van.

I think I can help you. In fact I know I can. I have a 2001 dodge caravan and it has happened to me. What probable needs to be replaced is the RESISTOR. You can get one at any dodge dealer for under 20 bucks. I bought mine for around $15. Now you have a 2000 caravan and mine is a 2001. I bring this up because the model changed between these years but I think the resistor should be in the same spot. It is located behind the glove box. Pinch the glove box sides to release the box so you have access to the back of it. The resistor is bolted by two bolts to the back of the glove box wall. Un-screw these two bolts and it will expose the resistor. A clip holds the reistor in place. You should be able to figure it out from there. It probable goes with out saying but, make sure the van is off. Take the keys out of the ignition. I have replaced 3 of thes in my van in the last 15 months so you might get good at replacing these. I am confident that this is what it is. If you have any more question. Just ask. I will check the site on Sunday.
