Help Me Plan My Roadtrip! (West Coast)

This July we (my husband, 3.5 year old son & me) are heading from SF Bay area to OR coast (Netarts Bay) via hwy 101. We've done the CA portion of the trip a few times but it's NEVER been leisurely ;) This time we'll take our time so I'm looking for any input on good places to camp, eat, play, sightsee etc. At least one of the State Parks along the way is closed so might be a bit trickier in that dept. We are fine doing dispersed camping as long as it isn't too far out of the way (i.e. pretty sure Lost Coast isn't doable even though we love it out there). Local recs. for good (not fancy) places to eat along the way to keep things easy food-wise. We'll have fishing gear and a canoe in tow so any fun water spots would be great as well.

Thanks in advance!

Your son might be a little too young to appreciate it, but when I was a kid, I just loved our trip to the Tillamook Cheese Factory. They have great ice cream there!

There is also the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport. And there is a little beach called Neskowin that (as of nine years ago) is fairly secluded. Might be a good place for a beach picnic. Good luck to you! I miss my home state of Oregon :-)

Beverly Beach for camping. Has plenty of sites and good easy access to the beach.

I second the Newport Aquarium. And Newport in general for shopping and sightseeing.

Check out the lighthouses along the Oregon Coast. Some are open to the public for tours.

I also like Brookings, nice town to visit. There used to be a park with a fortlike play structure for kids.

Lewis and Clark site at Fort Clatsop used to do historic re enactments which might be fun your son.

We've been camping at Albee Creek (beautiful small secluded campgrounds), redwood River Resort (privately owned, pool, rec room, kids activities, and they have cabins too). I've heard great things about Richardson Grove and Hendy Woods. All of these places are in the redwoods and are beautiful!! They are all along a river or creek. Can't really vouch for places to eat but you can google activities and good restaurants and such. I haven't been any further north other than just passing through to OR to see the in laws.

Have fun! Sounds like a great trip!
