Help Me Stay Warm Tonight! I Need Suggestions!!

My husband and I are going to a 21+ costume party tonight. I'm going as a Roman Goddess (I guess)... I'm wearing a 1 strap long black dress (cost me $300, collected a ton of dust, thrilled to wear it again!!)... anyway, because it's long, I'm wearing not one, but TWO pairs of black stretch pants underneath, but the dress is almost too long for me, like I HAVE to wear heels under it, so no socks (or should I wear my cowgirl boots? They have a bit of a heel, and I can wear socks)... I don't want the dress dragging too much in case I need to wear it to another black tie event... ANYWAY, it's sleeveless. The party is in a warehouse. YES there are going to be heaters and body heat, but it's still huge WAREHOUSE. Those things never get warm enough! Heat rises! I'm bringing a long sleeved black shrug thingy (2, actually)... think that will be enough to keep me warm? Oh, I'm also wearing a tube top under the dress to try to keep my core warm... anything else??

What can I do next?

I don't have any suggestions on the warmth part, but I have used safety pins to hike up a costume that was too long for my daughter. I used big ones and threaded the fabric through at regular intervals to create a gathered sort of look at the bottom. You could also use a needle and thread and pull it in and out a few times vertically for the same effect. You'd need to do several of them around the bottom of the dress to make it even. Once the dress is shortened, you can wear warmer boots/socks.

Instead of using your regular body moisturizer after your shower, use baby oil. It totally helps to hold in your body heat. Doesnt have to be baby oil, but any oil based lotion you might have will do the trick.
** By the way, my DIL is also dressing as a Roman Goddess this year... interesting. My son is going to be a zombie and Savannah (age 3) is a super hero dinosaur. So, their theme is totally out of whack this year and I've yet to discover how that happened, last year they did big bad wolf, grandma and red riding hood.

I wonder if they still make the dance stockings that don't run. If they do just get a pair for your arms, cut holes for your fingers and you are set.

I agree with wearing panty hose. They are annoying but will help keep you warm under stretch pants. Do you have boots that you can wear? Then you can wear socks. If the black shrug thingy (I am not sure what that is but I am guessing something like a sweater) doesn’t keep you warm then make sure your hubby is close all night and suck up his body heat, lol. Or you can drink a lot and not notice the cold, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

Have you thought of Cuddle Duds? They are long underwear for women, they are thin almost like tights but warmer and have tops to go with them. Jockey also makes a similar item. Go to Penneys or Kohls online stores and see if they are in store yet. They should be. And if you need them you are all set for winter.

I think Jockey makes a beige that looks a like like skin tone so you could wear the long sleeved one under your dress and it wouldn't be as noticable.

have fun!!!!

From military patrol years and rave years (two separate time periods)... a lighter in each hand keeps your hands warm when you can't wear gloves. The fluid inside heats up to body temp, and then your hand warms, and the lighter warms, and your hand warms... it's a cyclical thing until your hands are nice and toasty. Also, if you end up needing to use your fists, they work as well as a roll of quarters ;)

If you CAN wear gloves, opera length.

If you wear nylons under your black stretch pants, you can wear heels.
Then nylons will keep your feet AND legs warm. (But you may feel like
the Michelin Man. ha ha). Or wear your boots w/socks.

For your upper body.....the shrug!

You can also pick up "hand warmers" to keep in your purse, hubby's pockets. You can pick them up at Big 5 Sporting Goods type stores or
Wal-mart sporting goods area.

What about a black beret? 70% of our body heat escapes from our head.

Have fun!
even Wal-mart's sporting goods section.

Metal holds in heat so a big necklace and/or bracelets would help too.
