My 2 year old just got out of the hospital with an MRSA staph infection and surgery. We have been doing the bleach baths and Bactroban nose swabs and a week and a half later, my 6 year old has a staph infection.

Help! Has anybody else gone through this? What else can we do to get rid of this?? It is very frightening and I am extremely stressed.

What can I do next?

L.,
Boosting their immune systems is a priority. I would suggest you start them on the Shakleebaby and Shakleekids supplements. Also Shaklee has a phenomenal germicide called Basic G. It is much more effective and safer than bleach. Use it to disinfect your home, do not bathe the children in it. You can bathe them in Basic H. You can find these at http://www.shaklee.net/healthforlife.
Shaklee is the leader in natural supplements. Oprah has featured Shaklee on her show 4 times.

EDTA can break through the biofilm help anti-bacterials work more effectively. I read an article about this quite a while ago. I did a quick search and didn't find anything that is easily understandable. Dr. Anju Usman who treats autism mentioned this in one of her presentations. I'll look around to see if I can find you more information. Also silver (you buy at a health food store) helps bacterial infections, perhaps someone who has used it can suggest a brand.

I agree with everyone else who says focus on their immune system and eliminate Dairy, cut down on their sugar intake, and have them tested for any food allergens. Get them on the best probiotics and vitamins you can get at the health food store. That will give their immune system a boost (esp. if they have been taking antibiotics). Other natural herbs you can try is olive leaf extract in liquid or liquid tablet form (which is an anti-bacterial and anti-viral). If you're not already putting on a prescription ointment, you can try covering their skin outbreaks in honey (which is another anti-bacterial).
Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

I agree that one avenue is to strengthen the family's immune system. Look at your diet as the first line of defense. Focus on fresh fruits and veggies, whole grains, legumes (beans), nuts and seeds. Minimize animal protein and eliminate cows milk (www.strongbones.org). Use meat more like a condiment or a side-dish. I have lots of references to the power of food to help the immune system. I also have a list of immune supporting foods. Let me know if you'd like to know more. I also agree that you may need a little help in the nutrition category in order for your body to fight these infections more effectively. I work with Dr.s Bill and Jim (ABC The Doctors) and you might find some answers at their website, www.AskDrSears.com. We all recommend a food based supplement made from 17 different fruits and veggies. It has several independent studies that show a balancing and strengthening of the immune system.

The hardest thing right now is to get your house cleaned and eliminate the bacteria from it's hiding places. Depending on how you feel about that, you might enlist the help of professionals. Maybe have the kids stay with friends or family for a time so that you can keep them from reinfection.

I sure hope that some of this has helped. I know that a solicitation is the last thing you are looking for, but helping the immune system IS a strategy that would help your problem. I am happy to help, with or without discussion of 'products'. Good luck....I'm sure that you will get through this.

In health, D.
PS. Be sure you check on the independent research of any supplement that you look at. BTW, that supplement should have a nutrition facts label rather than supplement facts. That way you'll know you are getting food.

My husband had reoccurring MRSA infections for years. I was tested and although I have never had an infection, it is present in my nasal cavity (where it likes to hang out usually). Doctors were testing him for all sorts of immune system problems, we took supplements, eat vegan, washed ourselves and our stuff religiously. We finally went to see a doctor who tested him for food allergies. Turns out he has allergies to Dairy, Eggs, Beef, Wheat, Mushrooms...the list goes on. His immune system was working so hard to fight the food he was eating it couldn't fight the MRSA off.
Maybe have your daughter tested, more and more people are finding you about their food allergies and are able to improve their health because of it.
The Dr also gave us this antibacterial stuff to put in out noses. Most likely everyone in your family is carrying it. Pets can too.
Good luck!

I would see an infectious disease Dr. I saw one in Dallas because my husband had 9 in a yr and I had 2. We were really worried our son would get it and I was trying to get pregnant. There is an eradication program he put us on. This includes Hibiclens baths, Bactroban for the nose, total house disinfection, washing linens, etc. but there are specific times he wants you to do it and for a certain amount of time. Most of all keeping everyone's hands anyway from the nose ( I realize this is hard with kids).
