Help They Have Lost My Baggage

On June 21, 2008 my husband and I along with my two young grand children boarded a flight at DFW for Anchorage Alaska to visit my son and his family, upon arrival there to my surprise my suitcase was not there. Our flight should have only had a stop over in Minnisota but when we got there we were told they were changing planes and we had to go to another gate but did not have to handle our luggage. it took me calling the corporate office to get a response from baggage claim department, they could not tell me where my luggage was all they would say is that the baggage tag must have came off which is something that happens quite often. I only received a claim from from them last week and they still does not know where my suitcase is, again their only explaination is that it could be any where, that when a baggage tag comes off they cannot tell which airline carrier it belongs to so it is sent to the baggage claim for the airlines that dominate that hub, now thy have put out a system wide search. This airline not only lost my suitcase but five days before our flight they called to say that our return flight into DFW was cancel and that we would have to overnight in Minnisota causing my husband and I to lost a day at work. Does the luggage tag with information on luggage not count for anything, I would think that if the baggage tag they put on comes off their next step would be to look at the passanger's name tags and contact them. I was told that with so many part time workers and college kids working as baggage handlers they don't bother to look for such identifications they just toss it to the side. This is very scary. I don't know what is the next step, I have some things in my suitcase that money cannot replace for example my son played high school football and I had one of his newspapers article that I framed and was taking for him to pass down to his son, I also put together a scrapbook of funny moments captured of all my grandchildren and great neices ranging in ages from 1month to 9years these are timely treasures to me. Does anyone have any advise what to do, can the consumer sue an airline for negligence.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

today I sent an e-mail to Sun Country stating that I need to know what they were doing to locate my suitcase since it's now a month, and that I was going to the media, (I did send and e-mail to ch 4&11) well I got a response back from them saying that bags get lost every day and that they were now checking with other airlines. Thanks for all the responses. Will let you know what happens.

Have you thought about contacting a television station to get some publicity? I think that sometimes when you are blatantly ignored that is about the ONLY thing that catches someone's attention. I am not even sure if an attorney would get as quick of a response as a television station. Call now and get this resolved...your bags are somewhere and you will NEVER get what is fair to replace what you lost. Good luck!

P.S. - Delta's nickname is Delivering Everyone's Luggage To Atlanta for a reason!

This is such a shame. I would call them every day. They used to advertise a dumping place where lost luggage stuff was sold in Alabama. My ex is a pilot but we always got our stuff delivered at our door within a few days.

We also lived in Alaska and I got on the wrong aircraft instead of going to Seattle ended up in Minnesota. So I understand lot of military up there and confusing terminal. Two planes where boarding at the same time and they took me out of line an rushed me to that aircraft. Guess they really did not look at my ticket well. It was not until we were landing I realized I was at the wrong place. I spent the night in the airport locked in as I spent my last money on his kids at the airport. I had no money for a cab or phone call. A nice airline attendant drove me to another airport to catch another flight. Gave me a hug and sent me on my way.

Years ago we were selling Amway which today I think is the best business around. But we had a starter kit we were taking to some place. They took out a spray can of something and would not allow us to take on and said it would be there when we came back never saw it again. Think someone just wanted it. My ex knew the FAA rules and at that time was a safe product not like now you can not take anything. I have not flown since all the 9-11 started but some of these people should not have those jobs. I would hound them. It has to be some place. There has to be some place just that airline stores lost luggage. G. W

All you can do is keeping harassing them. American can take a long time to exhaust their search before they will issue a refund. Even then it's usually only a couple hundred dollars. You can take them to small claims court for breech of contract, and if you have receipts from lost clothing then you can get more. Most of us don't have the receipts.

Unfortunately, all you can do is wait and hope they find it. I know that I had a suitcase it took them 3 weeks to find, but I finally got it back. Good luck.

Word to the wise- always put your contact information inside the bag as well as on the luggage tag. Include a contact number that you can be reached at once you get to your destination.

HOPE YOUR ITEMS COME HOME SOON!

I would write letters, call and go out to the airport to their lost and found and check once a week. I would find out where they have stuff that has no tag/identification.

You could contact an attorney to find out what your rights are as a consumer. You could try and get the numbers for the other airports and do some calling yourself. I know this has to be frustrating. I've gone thru this once myself, however did finally get our suitcases back.

You might even want to call D/FW Airport in general in case another airline has the bag or someone else picked it up and returned it to the airport.

I would wait a couple of weeks and if you don't hear anything ask for a refund of what you think is a fair deal for your belongings and hassle/frustration too.

I'm sorry you are going thru this. Maybe you can get the newspaper article by going to the library and looking on microfiche or going to the newspaper itself, hopefully you can get that article back. Scrapbooks, I know are priceless with the pictures, time you put into it also. I hope you get your things back.
