HELP.....Dishwasher Residue, No Matter What I Do?

I have a top of the line Maytag dishwasher and it has been great since I got it in 2003. The last couple of months, I have residue (crumbs) on the bowls and glasses on the top rack. Hubby cleaned out the filter for me, I ran a vinegar cycle on hot with nothing in it, I use about half the detergent that the container holds, and I practically wash my dishes before I put them in the dishwasher. I am putting clean dishes in the washer and still getting the crumbly residue.

Do any of you moms, have secret results for not having to wash bowls and glasses twice and by hand?

What can I do next?

Someone else had this same issue a week or so ago & here was my response to her:

I had this problem too & it drove me nuts! I talked to my father-in-law because he works w/swimming pools, waste water treatment plants & just about anything having to do w/water. He told me that I may be using inappropriate amounts of detergent ect & that maybe I should try the cascade powerpacks (I'm sure that you have seen them - they are premeasured detergent/etc pillow packs). So I tried those & have been thrilled w/my clean dishes ever since. They may be a little more expensive than the box of detergent, but it helps me to keep my sanity when I can pull a spot free glass out of my dishwasher!

Hope this helps - otherwise - good luck - I know how you feel.

Hello,

I have had the same problem as you! We went to Albertson's and bought a Dishwasher Rinse Aid for a couble bucks and it completely took care of the problem. We found the generic brand works great!

Good luck!

My mother told me to run the disposal in the sink before doing dishes, something about the water going through the same pipes. I don't really know, but it seemed to help with my washer. Just let the disposal run about 30 seconds and then let the water run a few more. Maybe it will work for you too.

Check your spinner arms in your washer. Sometimes they get a little gunk build=up in some of the holes, and it makes the dishes messy.

Funnily enough I had the Sears guy out yesterday to service my dishwasher and he told me:
1. don't put the soap tablet in the dispenser - just throw it in the bottom of the machine at the beginning of the cycle. If you don't do that then the tablet doesn't get to dissolve early enough and ends up being all soapy during the rinse cycle. The soap stays in the machine.
2. run the rinse program with hot water about 5 or 6 times now to clean it.
3. if you use liquid not tablets then you can put that in the dispenser but only fill it to about half. he said we all use too much of that stuff and it's very concentrated.
4. check your rinse aid level and make sure you don't let it run out.
Hope this helps!
