Hey Moms,

What is your favorite recipe for making popsicles? We love eating popscicles on these super hot days out by the pool, but I hate the fact that they are full of dyes and high fructose corn syrup. I'm looking for a recipe that is relatively healthy (not bothered by the sugar, just HFC and dye) that also tastes good and not icy. Any flavors work.

Thanks!!

We just use fruit juice. Any kind. Usually I will use a Tropicana banana/mango/orange or some other combo like that. I just get them from next to the fresh orange juice in the grocery store. They're delicious and my kids ask for those instead of the pre-packaged icee pops.

These are wonderful! They are called Berry Patch Freezes, I usually make them without nuts because I am not a big fan.

1 cup sour cream
1 can crushed pineapple (in juice, not syrup) drained
1 T lemon juice
pinch of salt
1/2 cup sugar
2 bananas, sliced
2 boxes (10oz each) frozen strawberries, thawed (I used fresh strawberries that I sliced and then put them in a bowl w/Splenda until they formed their own syrup)
1 cup chopped pecans

Mix all ingredients in order and freeze in muffin cups.

side note: to get them out of the muffin tin after they are frozen, set the bottom of the muffin pan in a cookie sheet filled with hot water for a few seconds then they should pop out nicely!

Mix small pack of orange jello, but only use 3/4 water (so, if it calls for 2 cups water, use 1.5 cups) and allow to cool, but not solidify.

In a blender, add a medium container of cottage cheese (not the individual serving one, and not the big tall one, but the one inbetween.

Blend smooth and pour into popcycle forms.

Tastes like a dream pop...but sneaks in that calcium and protien ;)

---edit---

I somehow missed the dye bit. Any fruit smoothy you make, can be turned into a popcycle :)

How about pudding pops? Just make your favorite pudding and put it into the molds and there you go. You can use organic pudding mix ( I assume they have it) and organic milk. I always made them for my kids out of natural juices too. Anything that will freeze would work or blend up fruits.

Honey-flavor Greek yogurt (I love Greek Gods brand) with all natural coconut-pineapple juice. I mix it roughly 50/50 for a nice, creamy pop.

Tap the molds on the counter to get out any extra air and set your freezer a little colder than usual...the faster something freezes, the smaller the ice crystal and smoother texture.

I use the full-fat yogurt for my toddler. Greek yogurt also has at least twice the protein of regular yogurt. If you use regular yogurt, full- or low-fat, you will get a better consistency and less iciness if you drain the yogurt overnight and get out some of the extra water.

I use frozen juice. You don't have to add anything and they taste great.

Low-fat vanilla yogurt mixed with a bit of OJ. Freeze in popsicle molds. Tastes a bit like orange dreamsicles. Enjoy!

When I was little we just poured pop into the ice holders... That's not really a healthy option, but we sure loved it! :)

ditto what others said about using fruit juice or freezing yogurt tubes. Lemonade works well too!
