My daughter has had a virus for about a week and now shes formed a lump behind her ear. I am pretty worried about and taking her back to the doctor!
Hi Ladies! You are a great support system.
My son is 5 months old with very little hair. I noticed that the back of his head is unusually hot, like a fever, but his forehead is not. Is that normal? I have a 9 year old and a 7 year old who have never has this issue. When he was 2 months old, I also noticed two small lymph nodes behind his ears - toward the base of his neck. One on each side. Now he has three. Two on the left and one on the right. They are moderately soft. His doctor said it happens when the body is fighting off a virus. He has never had a cold, but he has been congested since birth. It comes and goes daily. He has reoccuring dry scalp also, and slight ezema. I'm not sure what to think.

Hi T.,
Did the swollen lymph nodes ever go away or have they been there for the last 3 months? I went through this with my son, I think he was about 6 months old when I noticed the swollen lymph nodes but they went away after 2 or 3 weeks. I would recommend getting a second opinion if that will help ease your fears, there's nothing better than having peace of mind when it comes to your child's health. As far as his head being warm in one spot and not the other, I can tell you my son is like that. He has a warm forehead and the top of his head is usually also warmer but his cheeks will be cool and then when I take his temp it will be normal. I honestly don't know what that is all about but he has always been that way.
I believe if i were you i would take my child directly to
children's mercy and see someone there. I would not take any
chances with those lumps and a new one also.
My best to you. Let us know how it goes.
My daughter is now 6 months old and just one month ago my babysitter noticed a swollen lymph node behind her right ear. My doctor said it was normal and she could always have this we just might not notice it when she gets older and more fat on her. My daughter has dry skin/ezema and hot spots on her face and head, sometimes. I think I'm in the same boat you are in and I don't know if I agree with my doctor. She has reoccuring dry scalp also, and slight ezema. My doctor never said she was fighting off a virus. I'm not sure what to think. My daughter is doing really good, but I just wonder what is really causing this. I don't believe that she should have a swollen lymph node her whole life. I would love to know what you find out!!! S.
My nephew was just diagnosed with a severe sinus infection after having similar issues. He is only 3 months old. Apparently he's had this for over a month. After treatment was started the symptoms subsided. Not sure about the lymph nodes though, they may or may not go away. Have your doctor check his sinuses or go to a pediatric ear/nose/throat. Good luck and God Bless.
While I'm of little to no help with the hot spots (maybe watch and see how much time he's spending on his back laying down...could that be why his head is hot??) the lymph nodes I know all about. My daughter started to get one when she was a year old. Just on the side of her neck. The dr. told me not to worry that it was normal. However then she started to get more on her neck on both sides and right at the base. They took blood and x-rays and although they told me not to worry they said they were looking for signs of cancer. Specifically Hodgkin's disease. When the blood work came back normal and there wasn't anything they could see on the x-ray they had her do an ultrasound. Thank God nothing ended up being wrong!! And she still has the lymph nodes. The one on the side of her neck is VERY visible. Which they now say may be from it scarring. So really take him to the Dr. Make them do all the tests. Even if it is for your peace of mind. Trust me you'll feel better. And the lymph nodes that are an indicator for Hodgkin's are the ones in between the collar bone on the shoulders. Which my daughter didn't have. But still it was nice to get all the testing done. Just to be sure. Hope I didn't scare you too much. Really the point of my story is to really make the dr's. do everything possible to find out what is or what isn't wrong.
Hello,
I just took my 7 month old daughter to the doctor because hers are swollen, they did an ultrasound and took blood. They said that they look fine and her blood work came back normal, they also told me the same thing about fighting a virus and she gets congested off and on. They told me to just watch them and if they get bigger or she gets a high fever I need to take her in. I am not sure if they did blood work on your baby, if they didn't you might ask for them to check them out by ultrasound and blookd work to make sure his white and red bllod counts are correct. I sure hope this is a little helpful.

T., I would see the doctor and if you're not satisfied with his/her answer, I'd see another doctor until you are satisfied. You are the only advocate this little person has and you need to trust your gut. If you think these symptoms are unusual then you need to figure out what the cause is. Good luck!
hi T.! not sure about the rest of it, but 1 thing that may help the dry scalp part is to apply olive oil with a q-tip. as far as thee rest of it, i agree w/ the other posting that said you are this baby's only advocate, go with your gut and keep pushing if you think it is something to worry about. the worst thing that could happen is being wrong and that's way better than being wrong not having checked into it! God bless.
My daughter has eczema BAD! I have also dealt with the lymph nodes. I swithced stores about 2 years ago and started shopping for safer products for my family and home. My daughters eczema has gone away just from using their lotion. It is a international health and wellness company. It's less expensive than than shopping at Wal-Mart. I would love to help you if I can please contact me ###-###-#### or ____@____.com
Hey, my three month old daughter's neck does the same thing. We check her forhead for a fever and it is usually cool as a cucumber. I have never been really concerned about it just figuring some kids are hotter than others. She sweats alot to. Almost every nap she wakes up almost soaked. I've never brought it to the doctor, because it just started with our crazy missouri weather, but she sees the doctor Friday if I remember I will probably mention it. Sorry the lymph nodes are new to me.
