Hi all,
My 12-month old was told by our pediatrician that his molars are swolen and ready to come in. How long does it take for them to come in? Also, besides Motrin and tylenol is there anything I can do to ease his pain? Thanks!

What can I do next?

with his molars was when my son got hooked on chewing ice and Popsicles. if you happen to be breastfeeding or switched to cows milk (i am not sure if it works with formula) you can freeze some milk and get one of those mesh feeders and put the frozen chunks in that so he can chew and suck on it. My sons 1st molars started at 10 months and went off and on before breaking through all at once at 14 months along with 4 other teeth. so getting 8 teeth at once was pretty rough on him. He has 2 of his 4 second molars now and at almost 2 is able to tell me when he thinks he needs medicine and when he doesn't. frozen things, hard foods like crackers, and lots of love. good luck :)

Our daughter's molars started at 11 months with being just red and swollen but didn't actually break through the skin until about 2 months later. On really bad nights I alternated the Tylenol and Motrin and luckily she loves eating popsicles and ice. I would take a pair of scissors and cut up a popsicle in a bowl so she could pick it up like a snack (and it's less messy). She would let me rub her back gums while we were in the tub too because I think it just felt good to her. There's not a whole lot more to do but try to make them comfortable. P.S. our daughter has always been a wonderful sleeper and when the molars started coming in she started with some night time waking as well.
Good luck!!

Within a few weeks you should see a tooth starting to peek out, at this age there is really nothing, unless he has a special toy he like to put into his mouth, If he still takes a pacifier there is one teether that is shaped like a pacifier that looks like a cherry it works wonders my daughter loved it.

My 14-month old son's molars have been coming through for the past few weeks and what he really likes is chewing on wet (warm) facecloths. I discovered it quite by accident as I was cleaning his hands & face after eating & he grabbed the facecloth & gnawed on it for a good 5 minutes in his highchair. Now I sit him in his chair for a few minutes before & after each meal & let him chew away on a wet facecloth. Not sure it'll work for your son but it's an easy thing to try! Good luck! - E.

Baby Anbesol or Baby Orajel worked wonders for the kids in my house.

Oh boy, molars are the worst! It took 1 month for all of my son's to come in, it was around 13 or 14 months, I think...He was so miserable but I found that teething tablets and orajel helped during the day and I alternated tylenol and motrin during the night. I would only give a half dose because I was worried about giving it for so long. Try to make him happy and comfortable...my son didn't have much of an appetite.

Depends..they can go up and down till their ready...Just watch the big "D" and fevers..Give him something he can gnaw on...and if he can rinse and spit..I would suggest warm salt water. Just remember those are his first molars...YEAH! The last set come in around 14..Don't hold your breath.
