How Many Ozs. and How Often

My son will be 1 year in about 3 weeks, I consulted with his doctor and she said to finish his formula (he was drinking 24 ozs. a day) and then do right to milk, which we did on Tuesday, so now he is solely on milk and a cup and is doing great. My question is how many ozs. of milk does hew drink and how often? With the bottles I did every 4 hours or so but now that he eats more food I am not sure. Any suggestions would be appreciated thanks.

What can I do next?

I stopped measuring once my kids were through with the bottle. And my kids all resisted milk and since I myself hate milk I didn't push it. What I did do was make sure they had some calcium rich foods at every meal.

So, try not to stress too much about it. Just make sure he gets a cup with each meal & snack and is gaining weight. Not only does he need that calcium but he needs the fat to help build his brain. Parmaesan cheese, cottage chese, yogurt are also really good sources too!

Hey D.,

Once my kids went off formula I also stopped the bottle so I really didn't measure. At eleven months I started putting some milk into a sippy cup so I could see how they did with the milk. At a year they just used the sippy cup and pretty much gave that to the whenever they wanted it. I also gave them water in between. Hannah gave some great advice I would try her suggestions. Good luck!!

I also stopped really measuring once we switched completely to milk. (I did half and half with formula first to transition.) I offered it with each meal and then some before bedtime and naptime. Call the pediatrician's office and ask. They probably have a guideline to go by so you know you're offering enough.
Isn't it exciting to switch over to milk?!....no more bottles and formula....yay!

You don't need to stress about ounces now. As long as he's healthy and hydrated, he's fine. You don't need to measure anymore, as long as he's a healthy weight! Here's what I do:

-sippy cup of milk when he wakes up (not measured out)
-water or watered down juice with breakfast
-cup of milk or kefir (or drinkable yogurt) when he wakes up from his morning nap
-water at lunch
-cup of milk when he wakes up from his afternoon nap
-water or herbal tea with supper
-small cup of milk before bed
-sippy cup of water in his crib

He is doing great with this schedule! It's nice now, because you can relax and just follow your son's cues. Makes me think we could probably have chilled out before now, as well! :)

PS My son likes enriched soymilk and rice milk better than milk. So I switch it up. There are lots of ways to get calcium!
