hey ladies, another question for you! lol. whats the average intake of formula for an almost 9 month old (she'll be 9 months on the 4th of july) lately she hasn't been wanting to drink her formula. she's been taking about 16-20 ounces a day. she was drinking about 24-26 ounces. so just wondering what the average is. i'm going for her checkup on the 30th so i'll be sure to ask her doc but just wanted to get some advice here :) thanks ladies!

What can I do next?

I believe the standard is still 24-32 ounces per day. But I don't think it is a big deal if they veer from that sometimes. She may just not be too hungry at the moment or perhaps she is taking in more solids. If I find my little one starts to get under the 24 ounces per day, i try and cut back a bit on her solids to insure that she has more milk. But I am sure your pediatrician will be able to provide you with more exact information.

32oz - 4/8oz bottles a day. This is what I did and it worked like a charm - same time everyday.....the 4 bottles are basically 4 hours apart. Make sure she is on the biggest nipple size too (for this age)... :)
1st bottle - at morning wakeup
2nd bottle - 10:00
3rd bottle - 2:00
4th bottle - before bedtime
In between these, I would do bfast ( all purees) at about 45 min after 1st bottle, lunch at 12:00 and dinner at 5:00 (then bottle before bedtime)...
Hope this helps! :)

the average is what their body needs. some need more than others if she is teething she will eat less they eat more before a growth spurt and less after it is done. if they are a big baby they will need more if they are a small baby they will need less. there is no rules.

The standard is 24 to 32 oz. in a 24 hour period. My son is almost 10 months and he used to be drinking 26 oz. a day plus baby food about 2 months ago and suddenly he just won't take that much anymore and starting taking 16 oz. a day if I am lucky. He won't take his formula during the day from a bottle so I have to put it in his baby food so he will get some that way. He also won't take formula from a sippy cup though we are still trying. The only time he will take formula from a bottle is at night when he is half asleep. I talked to my doc at my son's 9 month checkup and he wasn't too concerned because my son's weight was good (he's always been in the 50th percentile for weight).

I think starting at around 9 months babies might not eat as much sometimes because they are not growing as fast as they were. My son also went through periods when he doesn't drink much formula and after a couple days or a week he would drink his normal amount. That was when he was 4 months.

My mom in law also said it could be because by 9 months babies might get tired of the taste of formula especially if you have introduced solids.

Is she eating solids? If so she may be ready to not have as much formula. Also, she she may have slowed down in her growth right now and will pick up more later.

While continuing to give 3 to 5 feedings of breast milk or an iron fortified infant formula (24-32 ounces) and 4 or more tablespoons of cereal, vegetables and fruit one or two times each day, you can now start to give more protein containing foods. She might not want to drinks as much if she's teeting. FYI, any type of question like this can be easily found on the internet. Just type in your question. :-)
