We don't have a grill nor a portable Foreman Grill. Wondering if there are any easy ways to make thin-cut steak on a pan? I want to add it to salads, etc but don't know what type of steak to buy, and how to season/prepare it so it's yummy and tasty.

Hi N D,
One of my favorite ways to make steak without a grill is: to use skirt steak (because it has a lot of flavor but is not too thick). First, before you put it in the skillet, season it with salt, pepper, and a spice called Goya Sazón. You will find the Sazón in the Mexican aisle at the grocery, it is in an orange box. You will absolutely love it! After you season the steak, just put it in a hot skillet using olive oil to grease the pan! You can also do this for chicken if you so desire. Let me know how it goes! Good luck and enjoy!

I always season steaks with garlic powder, salt and pepper. You can broil the steak in the oven, if you use aluminum foil on the the bottom & top, just poke the holes through,it has little clean up. If you fry the steak do so on medium high heat, make sure your pan is very hot you will hear the meat sizzle when you put the on the pan, with a little olive oil. Once the steak is down leave it alone until it is ready to flip, you will know b/c it won't be stuck to the pan maybe six minutes depends on how thick your steak is. Once you flip leave it again for five or six minutes depending on how thick your steak is. I love using london broil, you can get 2-1/2 pound steak for six dollars and get two meals out of one steak, salad one night then make steak sandwiches the next night. Just slice the steak very thin across the grain in strips. These are huge steaks, so I usually cook them about 7-8 minutes a side, sometimes longer.

I get sandwich steaks cut them into strips and marinade them. Then throw them in the oven on 350 for about 10 minutes...they turn out wonderful every time. I usually throw them onto skewers, but for salad you wouldn't need to. Maui Mountain marinades are some of the best I've come across. They are flavorful, lots of variety, and best of all quick.

You can cook it in a regular skillet. Use some steak seasoning and a bit of butter or cooking spray and cook it. You can cook it rare, med. rare, and med on a skillet too. I don't eat red meat so I am not sure on the types. But my husband makes steak strips for salads often.

Just cook it in a skillet or broil it in the oven. Season with salt, pepper, and even garlic if you like. Fry it in a little butter or healthy oil in a skillet. That's how they make it for fajitas! Cube steak is cheap and yummy when seasoned or marinated. If you cube steak or flank steak, stab the flank steak with a fork all over ( the cube steak is already tenderized) then marinade. Put the meat in a ziplock with olive or canola oil, soy sauce, honey, and garlic or garlic powder. Shake and massage into meat. Let marinade at least a couple hours, even over night!

We cook our steak in the broiler when not using the grill. It tastes better than on the stove and cooks fast. Rib eyes are really good and both our boys like them because they are tender. Just make sure to use aluminum foil on the broiler pan to minimize the clean up.

A flank steak is always fast and easy to make. Just marinate it with whatever you like, score it, throw it on a broiler pan, and broil it on both sides. Keep an eye on it, because it cooks very fast. I like to marinate it with a bit of pepper, garlic salt and worchestire sauce.

We make flank steak (london broil cut) using the broiler. Our local Mexican market takes the same cut and tenderizes it using this cool machine - yummy!

For regular steak, like strip, etc., you can use a skillet on the stovetop (we use a cast-iron skillet). Rub kosher salt on the meat (you can also season with anything else you want) and cook on a pretty high heat (preheat the pan). You can look up the time online - I think it's something like 3 min. per side per inch, depending on whether you want it rare, medium, etc. It will be smoky in your kitchen!

When done, put a pat of butter on each steak and let sit a few minutes.

How about a grill pan (Crate and Barrel carries them as I'm sure many other stores).
