I have just washed & dried my daughters w/ her normal laundry. So far, no casualties. :-)
i use a pillow case with his normal wash and i even dry them on low, still in the pillow case. so far, happy feet and mr. bunny have come out good as new.
They can be sponged clean but when really dirty my Mom used to wash mine the normal way - delicates, in a bag works well... and than I would hover, anxiously while they dried on the clothes line, pegged by the ears!
You might have to adjust their expressions as they dry.
;-)
But this is a good way to check that all parts are well attached to the toy, (any lose eyes etc will come off after a wash or two).
If they aren't too big I toss them in a pillow case and put a knot on the end. It keeps them from getting torn up by the washer. Then just throw them in the washer on gentle with unscented soap.
