How Would You Feel...

If a neighbor put security cameras in their yard? We are going to buy out the co owner of our building. We desperately need space and with the market the way it is, selling is not an option. So we are going to take over the whole thing. The thing is, I do NOT ,NOT, NOT trust him at all. I would not put it past him to try someting after the fact. I mean more along trying to steal rather than fire or anything because the only thing I trust is he would never do anything to the kids. We want to put security cameras at the top of the building aimed at the side yard, on the garage aimed at the back and the rear of the building and then one either towards the front or inside the hallway. In order to do this, we have to request a signature from our immediate neighbors (3 houses in each direction) and the ones across the alley from us, plus we will have to put up a sign that there are cameras-even though they will not be aimed at the street or anything because we could get the people walking on the sidewalk in the end of the frame. Would it creep you out if a neighbor had cameras on their property for security purposes?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone. Sounds like it would not bother anyone. I don;t think we would have a problem with our closest next door neighbor. We think our neighborhood is pretty safe but we get people that like to think our yard is a great garbage can or throw things on the parkway area and we have to clean it up--maybe it will disccourage them. And of course we have the crimes all areas have though not at all bad.

Theresa, I know exactly what you mean by not able to go anywhere without being watched. If it isn't big brother it is the idiot with the camera phone trying to catch someone do something stupid.
And I would definitely take the recording to the police if he or anyone ever did anything. He pretty much killed any relationship with his sneaky garbage he has pulled. I would not put it past him to try to damage the garage or even the outdoor electric or water hookups. The reason for the cameras really.

Nope but if you read my answer to another neighbor related question you would understand why it wouldnt bother me. Unless it was aimed at one of my windows or doorways, that would make me uneasy.

Well, I'm not 'doing anything wrong', but it DOES creep me out a little to know these days wherever we go, we are pretty much being filmed. I mean you can't itch the inside of your nose or dig out a wedgy without the hole freakin' world watching, sigh.

Wouldn't bother me. We have a neighbor (2 doors down) that has security cameras.

As for the "perception" of being worried about crime...um.......OK. ????

Wouldn't bother me. If my neighbor feels the need for cameras in order to feel safe, it's no skin off my nose.

It wouldn't creep me out at all unless the people putting it up were super creepy or sex offenders.

I love my neighborhood and feel like it's as safe as one can expect, but we've had our cars broken into twice - I sure we (or any one of our neighbors) had had a security camera at the time.

It's your home and family, I'd say...protect them.

We have cameras. Granted, we are not in any shared space. We have a large lot and we've had some teens who think it is funny to vandalize by tp, squirt cheese, etc.

It wasn't so funny when police showed them the tape after they denied it. Worth every penny!

We are not in close proximity to neighbors but where I live, very nice neighborhood, it is not uncommon to have security cameras. Many people have them hooked up to a monitor and you can see who is at your front door, monitor your pool, etc.

Our neighborhood/town is very safe and my cameras are not up for safety/security reasons, they are for the teen vandals but we've not had an issue since word got out that some were caught and got in major trouble.
