P.K.
North of NYC and in the midst of it. Holy cow. Just lost, power. Now back on but cable blew!!! Going to be a long night. Lots n lots of trees around house. Hopefully they will stay standing. Fire radio going crazy. Whole family volunteers.
Alright ladies as you know I am in Iowa so I really dont get the best information about you mom's in the east. How is everything going? I heard today that this is bigger ( and could be more dangerous if it all hits land) than Katrina. (hoping and crossing fingers that is a lie!!!!) I hope you are all safe and eating candy!
You have my prayers!
JC- wow that is crazy! I am so glad that those nasty things dont hit here. Yeah we have torndado's but I can say that those pictures make hurricanes seem far far worse.

I would like to vent. We have trees and branches down but so far still have power and internet.
my daughter (21) on the other side of town called, saying her power was out, she was wishing she could come here but nervous about driving over. not supposed to be on the road. then her cell phone died or something.
:(
I'm thinkng about all of my mamapedia friends in the area and I wish safety for everyone.
I'm so glad the temperature is not going to have a high for the day at 20 degrees. Its hard to be cold, wet and miserable and without power when the temperature is in the 50s and 60s. If it was in the 20s, people would suffer far more and many would die.
I hope all of you stay high and dry. Good luck to you and yours.
Here in Northern Virginia - we still have power - no flickering - but like i have said before - we have lived here for 16 years and have lost power MAYBE for a total of 4 hours. I could be proven wrong with this storm.
It has been raining for almost 24 hours now. The winds are picking up. We have had gusts to 50 MPH right now.
It's growing in size and intensity. The worst is yet to come.
I am just outside of Philadelphia. The kids school was cancelled today and tomorrow. Right now, it is rainy, windy and a little scary. My mom and sister already lost power. I have a feeling we are next :( Thank you for your prayers!
Everyone in the path please be careful! A friend of mine in Cleveland said they will get high winds and rain.
When Hurricane Ike hit Houston a couple of years ago, we didn't have power for 13 days. I hope everyone is stocked up and batton down.
Katie--Pittsburgh is getting rain--predicted to increase & be accompanied by high winds through the night. Many schools are already delayed for tomorrow & cancellation wouldn't surprise me. Biggest issue will likely be power outages. And storm damage die to wind and flooding in low areas.
We are all home together today. NY and surrounding boroughs are on lockdown. Wind gusts up to 70MPH. Tons of rain. My son was supposed to fly to Vegas and I prayed all night that the city would shut down 'cuz crazy man was all set to go like Sandy was nothin'!!! Whew!!! Power is still on and we are just hunkering down and keeping warm. News is scary to watch, but it's on.
Thanks for posting this question. I live in Nevada with clear skies and 74 degrees, so reading all these responses really helps me put a mental visual on the situation. I've been watching the news and though I have no friends/relatives on the East Coast, I have dear friends who have family back east. I wish the very best for everyone back there and I hope there's not too much damage and pray for everyone's safety.
Please keep all of us Mamas in the know and remember how many of us are keeping you in our minds and prayers!
I was just wondering this too. I have some family in pittsburgh and not sure how they are doing!
I have friends without power and we live outside of Phila. Our lights have been flickering but so far so good. Here are pics of where we vacation in the summer. It is so sad. https://www.facebook.com/BasilicosRistorante?ref=stream
I'm in central CT. What storm? We had a little rain and lots of wind which started about 3:00 pm and by 1:00am it was completely quiet. We, as well as many of our friends in the city, lost power for any where from a few hours to 15 hours.
My work (also in central CT- Hamden) was closed yesterday because we have employees who live all over the state and they wanted everyone to be safe. Today (Tuesday) because there was no power this morning, but went back on around 11:00.
Hubby's work (central CT - Wolcott) closed at 5:00 pm, usually open until 9:00pm, due to electical surges and computer issues. They opened this morning. Very little damage in that area.
The papers and news are reporting major flooding along the shoreline.
From CT - We got through the hurricane without incident, no damage or power outage in our immediate area, I worked this evening and drove home near the end of the storm, I did not see any catastrophic damage, just messy with branches and limbs down. Did not see any downed trees. However, the surrounding towns on the coast did not do so well, alot of power outage, flooding and people who did not evacuate requiring emergency assistance.
Fires in Old Saybrook that emergency responders cannot get to due to the flooding - they don't know if anyone one is in the house, or even how many houses are burning, all they can see is the flames from the fire.
I'm in a part of Massachusetts that will have a lot of wind but not much rain. East & south of me will have to deal with coastal flooding (some communities on our south coast have been evacuated and 100K are without power now) and west will get more rain so other parts will be dealing with flooding. We will get some hurricane force winds but other than that damage (loss of power mostly) where I live it's just an inconvenience.
That said, New Jersey, Long island and the Connecticut coast look like they're going to get catastrophic amounts of flooding and then the west (West Virginia) will have blizzard conditions and the wind will reach as far as the Great Lakes, causing wind and flood damage there as well. So that's how it looks from MA.
We live in Va Beach and had horrible flooding. The storm is starting to leave us but we still have rain and heavy winds. One more night for us to go through. Thankfully we still have power but my friends are starting to lose it. We've been dealing with it since Saturday so the trees are really taking a beating and it is high tide here right now.
Still somehow on the grid, but expecting it to go at any moment. A lot breezy. Some rain. Flickering power.
