Hi A....

It can be very unnerving thinking about the needle... I also had a c-section w/ my 14 month old boy. My doctor was WONDERFUL and as long as you relax, it really is no big deal. The worse part is when they numb the area, and I didn't think that was even that bad. You just have to cooperate w/ them and tell them exactly what you are feeling. They will talk you through the whole thing. Good luck!!

Hi A.,

I had a C-Section too but the thing that caused me to just take the needle in my back was that the pain was so great I was willing to try anything. I think once you are in the midst of everything it will make things go by a little smoother. Its very scary when you think about what is going to happend beforehand. Grab a pillow and hold onto it for dear life and keep telling yourself it's going to be over in a minute. But most of all say a prayer before going in for God to give you peace and calmness. I know that will work! Be blessed and Congrats on the new baby!!

Hi A.!

You and I have the c-sections in common, only my first was 15 years ago and my 2nd is scheduled for A. 12th! May I ask why you have to have the c-sections? It's always interesting to me.

Anyway....you know you were fine the first time and you will be this time too. You are older and wiser now, just focus on the prize, your new baby girl, and you will be ok. Also ask the anethesiologist or nurse if you could get some Demerol to help you relax since you are extremely nervous about the needle for the epidural!

Let me know how you do and congrats on the new baby girl....do you have a name picked out yet? My son will be Wyatt.

My direct email address is ____@____.com care.

I had a c-section with an epidural for my twin girls. I was a bit nervous, but tried to relax. My advice: relax, its not awful at all. Squeeze hubby's hand when u r getting the epidural shot, and focus on holding yr baby in yr arms. Breathe and relax. After the procedure, when u r able to move around, remember to straighten yourself up asap, do not hunch over, it only increases thh pain. Do not bend over for a while when attending to baby to bathe, change diapers, etc. Do all this on a high surface to prevent straining your c-section cut. You will be fine, don't worry. God bless u.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

hi A. i feel for you i had my first child by c section which i had them painful spinal shots i was really scared also but i breathed my way through it and i had my eyes closed the whole time envisioning myself on a tropical beach with the wind blowing through my hair. so the shots wasn't that bad.then i had my daughter vaginally but my youngest daughter who is 6 now i had an emergency c section with her.i was supposed to have her vaginally but she didn't want to come down so that was the most painful birth i ever felt. and since i already had the iv in they stuck the medicine through there for the section. so i have been in your shoes but just stay calm and when you are getting the shots try to concentrate and put yourself on a beach or wherever you want to go. it does help goodluck with this and your beutiful baby girl.

A. congrats. in 1993 i had my first c-section because my baby girl was breech. two days after i got a severe headache and coundnt stand up without support.my doc said it was because my spinal fluid was leaking out of my shot. in 2002 i had another c-section with my next little girl because of scar tissue buildup and i was terrified that the same thing would happen again but i had no trouble at all. my doc said it was because my body already went through it. relax and have a wonderful time with your new baby. you will do fine.

Fist thing to know......it is ok to be scared. I planned a natural childbirth outside of a hospital and still ended up in a c-section. If you trust your doctor, know that he or she will put you in good hands with the team that they work with. There are some risks to that needle thing, but know that they can be corrected. You will be given shots of lidocaine to numb the area around where the needle goes in. Just keep still and let the anestesiologist do his job. Ask someone in the room to help you by standing in front of you. Hold or even sqeeze their hands. I was terrified, too. No one will think you are weak or crazy for being scared. Find a peaceful place in your mind and GO THERE. Once the epidural or spinal is over, just do relaxing, cleansing breaths. This will help immensely. Since you are having an epi or spinal, you will get to see your baby. While they are doing the procedure, know that you won't feel anything. Just keep thinking that soon, you get to see that new life you grew! They will show you him or her for a brief second and then tend to him whlie you are being stitched. As soon as he is bathed, they will bring him to you, but make sure you ask that he is brought to you so that there is no confusion.
The next day you will have horrible gas pains. Walking around helps alleviate them faster, so gt up and pace a little bit at a time. Before you do, though, the doctor will give you a girdle looking thing to tightly wrap around you. Ask some nurses or your husband to help wrap you before you get up. It helps tons. You will feel miserable, but that's ok, it's not the worst thing you've ever felt. You will be given medication which will make it harder to nurse, but hae your husband help you and ask that a lactation consultant come and visit you every day. I actually had someone from the nursery show me what to do. The medication will be safe to nurse on. I was given morphene, then percocet. The baby will be slightly more tired than expected.
Iwish you luck. Just breathe. many, many women go through this every day. You will be ok.
I hope that this helps you

A. frist off congrats on the good news now here is what i can tell you i had my son on 8/3/06 at AAMC in MD and he was going to be a natural vaginial birth untill 35 weeks along when my OB said he wanted to have another sonogram done and then at 36 weeks my OB called and said that he needed to talk to me tomorrow! So my husband and i went and well i was told that if i did not have C section that i could paralize his arms and such so i was scheduled for the next week. He was 9lbs 1oz and 2 weeks early!! You will do fine I only took 2 of the demeral and took them 2 days after having him b/c of the walking. As for the needle i hate them and i just b/c of my luck had to have 3 different needles befor they got one to work and i did fine so i know you will. Just remeber you can do this... but i was also the one who told my husband as we were walking to the OR that i was going to leave now and that the STORK would bring me my baby boy.... the wonders of meds. Good Luck and yeah it sucks for a few days but its all worth it. I was not given the wrap thing they gave me this underwear looking netting to wear untill the bleeding stoped alittle. Oh you might not be hungery for a day or two, I also didnt get gassy till 2 days later. AAMC will not let you leave till you pass gas and pooo so good luck. let me know how things go!!
