I'm a little bit away but my son who will be 10 in April was dx with HFA - high functioning autism several years ago. We have had a real struggle finding people to appreciate the special needs and extra attention and reminders needed when enjoying our little love.

Our church was too big for my son, he was far to uncomfortable. We started attending a smaller church but then my work schedule changed and I had no way to get him there.

We would love to get together and have play time. We love the beach, the park, the library and local museums.

I put together The Guide: Resources for the Disabilities Community that is free and downloadable at the Heimberg Law Group's website, wwww.heimberglaw.com. Look on the left side of the home page and click on The Guide.

There are numerous resources of all kinds for families. I think you'll find something there.

Hello,
I live in Pasadena. I have a 12 year old son and a 9 year old daughter who has brain cancer. she is still undergoing treatment for her tumor. Her tumor and her medicine have changed the way she interacts with people and her learning ability.
I was a pre-school teacher for over ten years and now I am a stay at home mom.

Hi, G..

I'm overseas at the moment so I'm sending you these links instead. (Perhaps you already know of them.) If there isn't a support group near you, start one of your own. Just tell each org that you want some peer support, some friends with similar joys/trials, and they'll probably have heaps of directions for you to go in. At the very least, each should be able to give you some leads on other orgs... all those other moms out there could benefit from knowing you, and knowing they're not alone. Your personal desire for camaraderie could very well change a lot of lives for the better! Good luck, G.!
