My daughter also has very curly hair which tends to get very dry. I've achieved results by using L'oocitane's olive oil shampoo and conditioner (can be found online or IMAGO BEAUTY GROUP on washington street in Hoboken) I"m not sure if you live near Hoboken or not. Also while you're there you can purchase the phytospecific hair balm again can also find online. The hair balm is best used on wet hair however you should see some results. You can also use carol's daughter products which other friends have used with results.
Good luck

My daughter went through the same thing. She will outgrow it.To wash it, I would get in the tub & let her make funny designs in my hair & then it would be my turn. I would bring a locker mirror (unbreakable) in so she could see herself. To rinse, fold a hand towel 3 or 4 times & place it over her face, holding it firmly at the forehead. Have her put her chin up & rinse. Showers are easier for rinsing. I used to take a shower with her, wash my hair & hers, & then let the tub fill up so she could have fun. Sometimes if they see how you wash up without tears, closing your eyes, etc., they will try to imitate you. Another thing I did was to give her a bubble bath, have her swim on her back so soap gets in there, & rinse her in the shower. It is only temporary so don't let it get you nuts. Hope this helps.

Whatever you do, do not put a perm in her hair! I am black and my daughter has very thick hair and she hates when Iwash her hair. There are some greases that you could put in it. Also when you wash it put conditioner in it and leave it in for about 20 minutes and then wash it out. When your done towel dry it then part it into 4 sections and braid it temporarily. Grease the sections and blow dry (section by section). Try to grease her scalp at least twice a week to keep it looking healthy. Maybe you can flat iron her hair to make it more manageable. Hope this helps

Hello K.,

You might want to put a relaxer in her hair. It is also called a perm. It is not like the typical caucasian perm this will straighten her hair. They have some specialized for children called kiddie perms. You can go to a hair supple store or some local drug stores may have them, depending on the neighborhood you live in. You may need to go to a neighborhood where more African Americans are for a more wider selection. Good Luck.

hi K.!
my sister and i have the same kind of hair..so does my son...while it is wet, put some moisturizer in it..detangler will become your best friend. it is easier to do that kind of hair while it is wet..you need to go to a beauty supply store that sell products for african-american hair...look for "Just For Me" products..it is made especially for children also invest in a wide toothed comb and a boar bristle brush...the comb in good for tangles and the brush, though a little rough, lays the hair down nicely....the most important thing is moisture..

Also it may help to look at the shampoo you are using. that may be helping to dry out her hair as well...try to find a shampoo with conditioner in it so bath time doesn't have to last longer than necessary.. Good Luck!
