I Need Some Encouragement

I am happy as I can be. My family is all healthy and we are in a great place emotionally and spiritutally. In short, life is good! But, I have hit a big bump in the road financially. Unforseen expenses, yadda, yadda, yadda. Now in the last 24 hours, BOTH our cars have broken down. So, I'm sitting at work, a little panicked about how I'm going to get home, pick up the kids, get to work tomorrow. Not sure how my husband will get to work. Not sure what's exactly wrong with either car and what it will take to fix them. I'm not even sure if the water will be on when I get home! lol Sometimes you just have to laugh in the face of adversity. I've had my back up against much bigger walls then this. I know everything will be fine. It always is. But today, I am feeling a lot of anxiety. Do you have any jokes, words of encouragement, funny anecdotes from when stuff crumbled around you but it all turned out fine? It would help to know that I'm not the only one that goes through these valleys. PLEASE no lectures on fiscal responsibility! So not in the mood for that today!

What can I do next?

You should look into Dave Ramsey.

Totally kidding ;)

I lost my job 2 days after we found out I was pregnant. I lost my insurance. My car broke down a day later. That sucked and was terrifying, but we made it. You will too. If it gives you a chuckle, my son just walked out of his bedroom with a stack of flashcards between his butt cheeks.

Girl! I always say "when it rain, it pours!".

I have a neighbor across the street whose washer broke down and they couldn't afford a new one for a while. She was so embarrassed but asked me if she could use my w/d, which she did once a week for 3 weeks until they could save enough money and find a good sale. tbh I was so happy to let her. Even though we weren't close, I was thankful to her for allowing me to do a good deed in the world. Point of my story? Don't be shy to ask for help if you need things like a ride. You never know if you are letting someone have the opportunity to be a blessing to you.

I hope your day gets better!

I'm sorry T., that sucks! We have all been there, it will get better.

Here's a joke for you:

A man and his wife were awakened at 3:00 am by a loud pounding on the door. The man gets up and goes to the door where a drunken stranger, standing in the pouring rain, is asking for a push.

"Not a chance," says the husband, "it is 3:00 in the morning!"

He slams the door and returns to bed.

"Who was that?" asked his wife.

"Just some drunk guy asking for a push," he answers.

"Did you help him?" she asks.

"No, I did not, it is 3:00 in the morning and it is pouring rain out there!"

"Well, you have a short memory," says his wife. "Can't you remember about three months ago when we broke down, and those two guys helped us? I think you should help him, and you should be ashamed of yourself! God loves drunk people too."

The man does as he is told, gets dressed, and goes out into the pounding rain.

He calls out into the dark, "Hello, are you still there?"

"Yes," comes back the answer.

"Do you still need a push?" calls out the husband.

"Yes, please!" comes the reply from the dark.

"Where are you?" asks the husband.

"Over here on the swing set," replied the drunk.

I would say it could be worse it could be raining (except it actually is here in NY!).

Sometimes when it rains it pours... but then the flower grow!

Maybe tomorrow you can all take a "sick" day and make it a family fun day. That way you do not have to worry about driving everyone every where... and during the day you can look at bus schedules (make it a grand adventure!) and see if your kids can get rides with thier friends.

Good luck!

I totally feel your pain!! I'm just about in the same boat. Here's what I do.... sit down and take a few deep breaths; and just keep telling myself this is out of my control (if you pray, this is definitely a good time to ask Him for help!) but we'll get thru it one step at a time. Trust me, I've been thru hell the past few years so I can totally relate.

If you have friends and/or neighbors that offer you rides, etc., take them up on their offers. I'm sure they would love to help you more than you realize.

As for the finances, my husband has been laid off three times in the last few years so that was totally out of our control; you won't hear me lecturing!! We did the best we could and got by. I think back to how we were several years ago and think how I'd love to go back to that life!! We're still having a hard go of it but we just keep going. If for no other reason, I keep telling myself it's all for the kids!!!

Also, you're not the only one - there are lots of us with the same/similar problems thinking we're the only one. We all just need to help each other at least emotionally on here!!

Good luck!!!

Just reading your post you can hear the strengh and optimism! Read it yourself as if it was written by another poster. You will get through no matter what!

Our family has struggled as well. My DH lost his job for several months then I was laid off partially but still made too much to collect unemployment. We have a child with a disability and I had to travel 50 minutes just to get him to a bus stop for a specialty school. Once my DH finally got a job it was working nights. It was really tough for almost 2 years he wasn't making very much at the time but, my DH was able to get a day job making a pretty nice salary. We are slowly paying down the debt (lived off of cc) but, we made it through.

Try to stay positive and know that no matter what your family is together and healthy. Allow youself today with no guilt. Take care, I wish you and yours the best.

I Hope i struck a good nerve with you and I hope I put a big smile on your face for a minute. Take 2 minutes next time, love always and forever.

I'm so sorry, T.. I hope that boss of yours will not be tough on you today. That would just stink, on top of everything else.

Is it perhaps a fan belt? A friend of mine used her panty hose to make a belt one time...
