Im scared of medication at such an early age, but the school is going to hold him back. The hyperness of my son doesnt bother me, I just want him to be able to learn...

We are currently having our son tested for ADHD. I highly reccommend you visit this link:
http://www.russellbarkley.org/adhd-facts.htm
type in - russellbarkley.org if that link doesn't work. There are a lot of untrue facts out there and you will here a lot of advice, take it all with a grain of salt. Reading this website should clear things up. When I lived in Elgin we saw Dr. Wynn Sheade at Associates in Peds. There is help out there, good luck!

A.,
I am a therapist for children and adolescents. If your son't ADHD has come to the point of needing medication, my suggestion is not that you look for a physician but a psychiatrist. Physicians are more likely to use medications that a rep has recommended rather then really choosing the one that may be best for your child. You live in Elgin? I don't work at Alexian Behavioral Health in Hoffman Estates however they are known to have good Borad certified Child and Adolescent psychiatrists. I would give them a call and go in for an assessment if thats what you think is needed.
Good Luck.

Check out the Pfeiffer Treatment Center. Also, you could look up Dr Schwartz, in Milwaukee.

You coudl try omega 3, which are very good for attention. Also, take a look at diets. My son lost a lot of hyperactivity when me removed gluten and casein from his diet, as well as dyes and salicilates. Also, check on no-fenol by Kirkman Labs. Many children wiht a problem wiht hyperactivity have a problem with phenols.

Good Luck!

Congrats in staying away from drugs and medicines. This shows me that you really love your child.
We are raising four boys, and here is what works tremendously:
First pick the low-hanging fruit:
LIMIT HIS SUGAR AND WEAN HIM OFF HIGH-CARB JUNK FOOD - THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!
Give him good nutrition - Shop at a health food store once in a while
Give him enough sleep
Make sure he has physical activity to burn his calories.
See if he is allergic to wheat gluten. You may have to buy gluten-free products.
Physicians scare me. They know very little about health and are out to perscribe drugs.
All the best to you and your child.
