I did the exact same thing with my son. (he's 3 weeks old) I did it with my first son as well. It could be a period, but most likely it's just a second bought of bleeding. I am exclusively breastfeeding as well.
I had my son on the 23rd of january. I stopped bleeding on the 13th. So, it has been a week since i've bled. This morning i woke up and it looked like i had started my period. But, i'm fully breatfeeding and was told it should take a while before i get my period back. Is that possible? I do have an appointment for friday. But, should i try to get one sooner.
So, i finally went to the doctor and he said everything was fine. THANX GUYS FOR ALL THE HELP!!!!!!!!1

Hi, this might not help to much if at all but i can try. My OBGYN told me i could what would be like a irregular period for the fist month after i had my son. After that I would stop and start my period. I was breastfeeding to begin with but had to stop. Now, my doctor did tell me i could have spotting, a little heavier than usual, though. I don't know if that had to do with anythin but maybe that's what's wrong. When ever I thought something wasn't normal I would call and make an earlier appointment. Like I said I don't know if that helps any, I'm not a doctor, but I can try to help.
YES!! this is very normal. I only bled for 2 weeks after delivery. I had my son on Nov 9th and was breastfeeding up until about 6 weeks ago and in the middle of my feeding (at about 9 weeks after delivery) i started bleeding VERY heavily. Worst period i have had in years and i was breastfeeding. I have to say that shortly after this happened my milk prod did slow down. But, I got some fenugreek pills from the Vitamin shoppe and took 3 a day 3 times a day and it did help milk production. Hope this helps!

Yes, everyone is different. With my first pregnancy, I bled for 6 weeks straight stopped one week and then had my period. ( I blame that on the depo shot) Then with my second pregnancy, I bled a couple of weeks, not near as heavy as before and then a couple of weeks later I had small different for me period and then a month later a normal for me period. With my third pregnancy, I bled a couple of weeks and then didn't do anything until a month later. My fourth pregnancy, I bled about 3 weeks lightly, stopped a week and then had a light period. After I got my IUD- I had sporadic spotting for 3 months and then it stopped. Occasionally, I will have show when I wipe but that will be it. (Frankly, I LOVE not messing with having a period)
With you breastfeeding (as you stated in your other post- I hope you are the same person :) ), your period could be sporadic, light or even stop.
Hope that helps..
I guess everyone is different, but my son was 7+ months when I got my period back.
I still bled a little after having my fifth child and fully BF-ing. I had a Fibroid Tumor the size of a tennis ball. I had a Hysterectomy. I had the tumor during my fourth pregnancy ang it was pretty painful but it shrunk after giving birth. Anyways, not trying to scare you, but just make sure when you go to the Doctor, atleast ask them to check into that. They could remove it, but since God had Blessed me with Five Beautiful children, I went on and had the surgery. Just something to think about and something you can alk your Doc...

Congrats on your baby!
With my first, I had the 6 wk bleeding. It stopped for 1 day and then I got my period. I had my period regularly after that. No break whatsoever. My baby was only breastfed (no formula) and I was not on any hormonal pills. I called my doctor panicked- and she reassured me that for some women- you don't get a break.. even with the bf. That was my situation. With my second baby, I had a 6 month break. Not sure why the difference.. since they were both purely bf... but just call your doctor's office and ask what they think.. but I have a feeling its just how your body functions.

With my first son, my period did not start until several months later - I was still breast feeding, but had gone back to work and wasn't as consistent with the pumping. But with my second son, something just like you described happened. My best friend, who is also an ObGyn said that it is perfectly normal - unless you have any other symptoms that alarm you, there is NO normal. . .
That is normal this could be your actual cycle but you can always call your OB to make sure that's what it is.The same thing happened to me when I had all 3 of my kids, and I thought something was wrong too. That wasn't the case it was my actual cycle coming, now when you bleed for so long after you have your baby then that's when you really worry.Let's say 3 or 4 months bleeding none stop on a daily basis.Good luck S. I hope you feel better.
are you nursing? I would maybe call my doctor if I were you. I'm sure it's nothing. If you're nursing than I know that many times your period can be delayed for a much longer time.
Calling your doc would be a good idea.
*Most* moms who are fully bf-ing their babies don't menstruate until much later. However, it is not altogether uncommon to start your cycle this early. A friend of mine in OR started at 6wks postpartum with all 5 of her kids. She said that it was really common in her family.
To be assured that it's nothing serious, schedule a doc appt. Or at least call the office and talk to a nurse.

No it is not normal and you need to call your doctor.
yes it is possible. it happened to me.
sucks, though.
