I WOULD NOT Recommend Using Dr. Lujan in Lone Tree...anyone Else?

Has anyone ever had a bad experience at this office? I have a very bad taste in my mouth over a recent situation with this pediatrician's office. I have 2 children - a 2 year old and a nearly 5 week old. I HAD been taking my 2 year old to Dr. Lujan since he was born. The Dr. herself appears to be very nice, but then I had to ask myself why she has a new nurse ever time we come in for a visit. In the 2 years we were visiting, we probably saw 3 different front desk staffers and as many as 10 nurses. One nurse reeked of cigarette smoke and another was so slow to give vaccinations that she asked me to roll my son over so she could get a better angle after already giving him 2 shots! Since having my daughter, we decided that we need a pediatrician closer to home (we live in Castle Rock). I was suffering from a cold and bulging disk in my back when we called to cancel our appointments with Dr. Lujan on Sept. 2nd. My husband spoke with the doctor herself that Friday. When my husband explained to her that we were switching offices, the doctor told him that she hoped "we were happy with the new practice because they are a little different down there". I found this to be EXTREMELY unprofessional and unnecessary. We never stated our displeasure with the practice and now I will be writing her a letter. According to another source (a former nurse who worked there), she is not the nicest person to work for. Has any one else had any problems here? To top it all off, we just received a bill for $100 because we cancelled our appointments. I would NEVER recommend anyone take their precious cargo to this awful office.

What can I do next?

I am not familiar with this office but I can tell you, I hear so many horror stories in regards to Pediatric offices and it is just sad.

I am not sure if you found a new office, but I cannot resist recommending Crown Point Pediatrics. They are incredible! They have been in the Aurora area for 20+ years and a year ago moved to the Parker area over by SkyView Hospital. They are the most loving group of people on top of the great medical attention. I have never called and not had them get me in the same day, one time they even stayed late so they could see my son. The staff rarely changes and they have a few PAs and RNs on staff as opposed to a lot of offices.

I chose this office based on an interview I requested with them when I was pregnant with my first son 10 years ago with Dr. Roos. I was sold from the moment I walked in and consider a lot of the people there, including Dr. Roos, friends.

Good luck and thanks for sharing the bad egg docs out there with us. You are right we have VERY precious cargo and none of us want to get caught with someone who doesn't treat them that way.

I'm glad you're switching offices, but I wouldn't advise wasting your time writing the letter. Anyone who's so dense about their relationship problems as to have revolving-door employees is not going to read the letter and have an epiphany.

Wow,
I use Dr. Lujan. While I haven't had any issues, I can't say I'm surprised. You're correct about the turnover; I hardly ever see the same face there.

I certainly wouldn't like someone reeking of cigarette smoke around my newborn!! That is unprofessional and disgusting on so many levels.

As for the $100 charge I could understand if you were a habitual person who cancels visits at the last minute but there should be some leniency with that.

I do think you should either talk to write Dr. Lujan personally. I’m sure if you explain the situation she would waive the charge.

Congrats on the new baby!!

OK..So I have to tell you that I spoke too soon. Maybe I caught them on a bad day but I took my daughter in today to see Dr. Lujan. She’s been running a fever and has a bad cough. Anyway, I took her in; Dr. Lujan spent all of 5 mins with us, diagnosed my daughter with the Swine Flu and wrote a prescription for Tamiflu. I asked her if she was going to run a test to confirm the Swine Flu, no, they don’t do that there, but they do diagnose on the presenting symptoms. I questioned the Tamiflu and she told me it’s what the CDC recommends. However, the CDC also states that Tamiflu is 99.6% resistant on H1N1. So there is only a .04% chance of it working.

That 5 minutes and fake diagnosis cost me about $125.

Needless to say, I will be looking a new pediatrician in the morning. Thanks for the post; you really brought some light Dr. Lujan and her staff.

Thank you,
D.

I also live in Castle Rock and still make the drive to Partners in Pediatrics (off Lincoln and I-25)in the Meridian area. They are very good with the kids, more natural and holistic too - versus take this drug. Although you have a young one and will be driving more that first year, I still think they are the best. I use Founders Family Medicine for quick and easy things, but take my kids to Partners for their annual exam and if there was something more going on. ###-###-####. Also, ask the office if they will waive the $100 fee. If you still have problems and feel you are treated unjustly, let me know and I can share what Pre-Paid Legal Services can do to help you. greatlegalhelp.com will give you a quick overview. Can also give you the names of some good chiros in Castle Rock as well as share some natural technologies to help your back. Email me if you need more info.

Take care,
S.

I have been using Dr. Lujan since my 3 yr old was born and haven't had any problems. I have noticed the turnover in nurses but all of the nurses we have seen were great and very professional.

Its not clear from your post but I would assume the $100 bill is for a last minute cancellation. All of the doctors and the dentist my family sees has a 24 or 48 hour cancellation notice policy.

We have been very happy with the care our kids have gotten there.
