A day at Camp Snoopy was always the best when I was young. Pretty spendy though unless they have a special for groups/birthdays.
Grand Slam is great for boys that age. If you did it on a Saturday night it would be $10 per person for unlimited laser tag, mini golf, etc. and you get some arcade tokens with that too but it's been a while so I am not sure how many.
Club Just Jump is very cool...but again, a bit spendy.
The Holiday Inn in Elk River has a water park that any guest of the hotel can use. Staying in a hotel overnight would be fun by itself, but this way you could combine the two. You would only have to pay for a room- although I'm not sure what their policies are on how many people can be in one room, or if they allow people to have a bunch of kids sleeping on the floor in sleeping bags??? Anyway that way you could also avoid all of the kids staying at your house too.
I think a birthday party at the Science Museum would be cool but maybe a 10 year old would not be crazy about that.
The mini-golf places like Lilli Putt in Coon Rapids also have go karts, batting cages, bumper boats, etc. kind of like Grand Slam but outside
A birthday party at Valley Fair of course would be the ultimate for any kid but probably $400 for the whole thing
$80 at an arcade would give each kid 52 coins to play games with
My son turns 10 on the 10th so not only "Double Digits," but also his Golden Birthday. This isn't particularly budget-friendly, but we are taking approximately five boys to Grand Slam in Burnsville. Then we are coming back to our house to watch a movie, and I'm letting him have his first sleepover party. The sleepover part is really the key because I HATE sleepovers and my boys know that. I promised him his first sleepover party for his Golden Birthday. He also planned the movie they will watch and the breakfast I will serve. He has been VERY involved in the planning. I told him he had to limit the guest list to 5. After struggling with that we are sending out six invitations, and I'm secretly hoping someone will have a conflict or won't be able to spend the night! The YMCA does pretty reasonable birthday parties, and I like the fact that the kids are active and burn off some steam; we've done those before. Another thing we've done is have a "baseball party" and play baseball at the ball field in our neighborhood park. You can also reserve City parks and fields. We had baseball decorations and baseball-themed cupcakes. The party favors were baseballs and baseball cards. That was a very reasonably priced party. You could do the same thing with football. One of my son's friends had a football party where the kids played flag/touch football at the neighborhood park. With the sports parties it helps to get the dads involved and maybe even invite an extra dad or two to stay. The only catch is you need decent weather. Mad Science does birthday parties, but I haven't looked into how much they cost. We had a reptile guy bring a bunch of critters to our house once, but that was about $100 or so. Have fun!
