You can use anything with a tight fitting lid. My friend put hers in a ceramic container that would usually be used as a catch all or to serve candy.
my son passed away 3 yrs ago & now i feel comfortable enough to transfer his remains from the box into a nice urn, but when i looked online they were a bit pricey, so i was wondering if anyone knew where i may order a reasonable price yet beautiful urn

I am assuming your child was young when he passed ... here is a site that has some beautiful child/infant urns (I really like the turquiose one it's beautiful) that seem reasonably priced ... I hope you continue to cope well with this and I am proud of you for being able to take the next step it is never easy.

Asian Import stores have beautiful cloissonne and ceramic urns. Much cheaper than buying from a funeral-specific place.
I work in the industry. Google "cremation urns" and check out the results for what you like. There are wooden, ceramic, biodegradable, pewter, cloisonne, etc. available.
Another option is to go to your local funeral home, where you will be able to see some for yourself.....
Not sure if this appeals to you, but there is also cremation jewelry that allows you to keep a small portion of the cremains in a locket.
Good luck to you!
When I looked at urns, they were mostly ceramic. (at the funeral home, 1-500$ back in 95) I think it would be a lovely idea to go to a pottery place, and make one of your own. Just an idea.
A relative bought a beautiful one @ Hobby Lobby, this was for a grown man & all of him fitted.I think you should shop around to see what you like anytjing with a tight lid or screw on lid would work but i'm not a professional nor have I bought one.I'm sorry about your son.

I bought a casket for my mother online that was $5000.oo cheaper than the same one at the funeral home. These online dealers are just as compassionate as the funeral home directors and they get the casket/urn to where it needs to be within 24 hours. There are several other dealers but you can start with this one...
So sorry to hear about your loss.
God bless,
M.
You can talk to funeral homes and cemeteries. Sometimes they have urns that are being discontinued and you can get a break on a price.
I would check around locally first. There is the price of the urn and the price of transferring the cremains and having the urn sealed.
Having worked at a cemetery, dealing locally can mean getting more emotional support. It's worth a try.
My father worked at Chapel of the Chimes when I was a kid. You might check with them.
I hope you find something beautiful and befitting.
Best wishes.
Go to an asian store - they have the most GORGEOUS ceramic vases with lids. My step mom - who is Thai, got one for each of us girls when my Dad died, and put some ashes in each one for us. That precious vase/urn sits on my bookshelf. I know my sister superglued the lid on hers, but I never did. The time I went with her to the asian store, they were quite reasonable.
I'm not sure if the same rules apply for urns as apply for caskets, but when we buried our daughter the rates were rebated for children. I would go to funeral home and get a quote there. Some churches help out with parishioners expenses too.
Costco has them...

Sorry the link is so long.
I also second the Asian pottery idea. I know they have them in China town in SF, and they are lovely. Good luck and I am sorry about your loss.
Costco actually sells them thru their website, you may want to check it out. I don't think you need to be a member to buy, but there may be a fee attached if not.
I 2nd the suggestion of talking to a funeral home.
My sister's FIL just passed away last week and she said they had all sorts of urn to choose from, the cheapest being $20.
I am sorry for your loss.
Honestly unless you specificaly feel the need to put the ashes into an urn sold by funeral type places, why not simply find a porcelin ginger jar or something similar that you like and would fit into your home decor, if you are not going to be spreading them somewhere but keeping them. Just a thought.
For both my Mother and Grandmother, I visited local art galleries for unique, artisan pottery for their cremains. I lined the "urns" with lovely fabric and placed their already sealed cremains inside.
It was less expensive that the commercially produced urns and much more personal. I found really nice ones that matched their personalities and personal styles. Since both were for internment, I took photos of the pottery - is that weird?
I actually enjoyed the search for just right urn - it turned out to a be a special moment for me.
God Bless
I can't offer any answers to your questions, but, wanted to offer this up: my cousin passed away and my aunt had him cremated. She has him in a beautiful urn. It's a crystal vase and he's in a base below the vase. She keeps flowers in it all the time and it reminds her of his life. I'm sorry for your loss.
My mom passed last Sunday, June 3rd. We had her creamated as she had no insurance and we didn't have the funds to have a full fledged funeral. The cremation alone is costing $2600 including everything but the burial of the urn and the urn itself. We have decided since the cemetary demands $250 to bury the urn we will keep it at home. We went to Hobby Lobby and bought a beautiful ceramic 'urn' for mom. I think we gave $60 for it. We are having the lid sealed by a monument company and after her memorial service Tuesday night the 12th we will be bringing it home. I was very uncomfortable with all of this at first but I am coping with it allot better now. Hope this helps.
