Congrats, Girl! I love hearing that another women is starting her own business!!!!
I'd love to invite you to come to a women's networking event that I host in my home. I have 35-40 women that come to learn about each other, do business with one another and refer to each other....you'll love it! I also have an incrediable business coach that attends. She only works with women. We're getting ready to plan a 3 hour course on improving "you brag bite." It's a great class! I'd love to introduce you to her and several other ladies that attend.
If you'd like a copy of the invitation , please let me know and I'll email it to you.
There is a great resource for you. It is the Women's Business Assistance Center (WBAC).
There are all types of classes. The best comprehensive course is a twelve week class called project new. It helps you with your business plan. There are guest speakers from bankers, lawyers, insurance, credit card, finances, sba, etc. Students range from people who "think" they want to own a business to people who have been in business a couple of years, but decide they really don't know how to market themselves, get loans, etc. GREAT CLASS!!! I was in business for five years before I took the class and I learned a ton!! They don't tell you how to make your "widget" but they do tell you how to market it, distribute it, plan a budget for your widget, etc. THIS CLASS IS A MUST FOR ALL NEW BUSINESS OWNERS!! GOOD LUCK.
What exactly will you be doing?
Hi L. -
Congratulations! Tell us more about your business (so you can get some shameless advertising) but more importantly so we can help you better.

Get a lawyer to help you make sure everything is set up and ready to go. It is worth the investment to get it right.
We started our corporation about 2 yrs ago and the lawyer and accountant helped us greatly. They guided us through each step and that is SO helpful when you do your books yourself, etc. I just email my Quickbooks to the Accountant. It's that easy!
I have references for each if you would like.

When I opened my own business I found the books/software from "Nolo" very helpful....I also did a lot of reserach on the internet. Nolo provided all the info on what was needed in Texas based on what type of business entity I wanted to become. I chose an LLC...I didn't need an attorney and so far just bought Quickbooks in liue of an accountant. Good luck to you!
Contact the Small Business Administration or a local college to get the info you need. They will want you to write a business plan so that you know where you are going with your business not just applying for a loan. This will give you an idea of how, what and when and if it is a go in your area and in this economy. Try to find a mentor who will guide you in the areas you are not familiar. Good luck to you. Also do you have back up support for your family (childcare providers)and your business (financial) as you will have long hours getting everything going.
