Induced Two Weeks Early

Hello all! I was induced two weeks early (had my angel New Year's Eve) & have a question. Is the fact that she was born two weeks early mean that she is two weeks behind developmentally? I know that every child is different developmentally and she actually was focusing and had neck strength way early, but she has yet to smile etc and I was wondering if the milestones are also based on the amount of weeks the baby is in utero.
If they say she will smile at 6 weeks or sit up at 12 weeks, does that mean she may do it two weeks later. Let me know your thoughts please.
Thanks so much!

Yes
If you were induced at 38 weeks and gestation is supposedly 40 then they are early. If you were able to go home with the baby and the neonatologist told you"You have a healthy newborn" I would not agonize over developental milestones. Just as any other parent. Watch and document her growth. DO keep a record it will be nice when she is grown as well as a comfort to see growth.

J.,

A fetus is considered full term at 37 weeks so your baby is not behind schedule. I was induced around a week and a half early and she is doing everything fine. As I have learned, there really isint any kind of schedule for when babies should be doing things. They will do it at thier own pace. My daughter started really smiling at about 2 months and sitting up on her own at about 7-8 months. I think if you were induces before 37 weeks then she would be considered pre-mature. If your baby does anything late, dont rush it! The first year flies by soooo fast and soon you will be yerning for the first times she smiled, sat up, etc.

Hi, J.. My oldest son was born 5 weeks early and he was NOT developmentally behind. He holding his own head up by 1 week old, he walked at 10 1/2 months and was talking words that were clear at 1 year old then by the time he was 2 years old, his speech was not getting clear and it seemed very difficult to understand him. He now receives speech therapy at home. When he gets too excited and it's hard to understand him, I'd ask him to calm down and ask what he wants and if I still don't get that word, I have him point to me and have him repeat after me and he's 3 years old now. I questioned some authorities about how he was talking real good at 1 y o and then at 2 he wasn't and I was told that because he walked at an early age, the brain that control the movement and so forth has caused the speech part of the brain to be delayed. He's smart and knows exactly what we are saying to him. So, don't worry about that and you do what you know is best for her and work with her in areas of movement and belly time is great for them whether it's on you chest or on the floor. I excercise my baby by moving his legs and he loves it and do patty cake with him to get his arms moving and continue having things in front of him to grab onto and so forth. Just keep going and doing what you can with her and she'll be fine and all babies are different. You can't say oh, she is supposed to be doing this "thing" at this age, those ages suggested are to help you figure that if she still not doing whatever it is in about couple months later, then you can point it out to pediatrican. At each check-up they should be asking you if she's doing such and such thing and so forth. Don't worry and it's hard not to worry when it comes to your first child. Every person is different so every babies are different. Love her unconditionally and she will blossom and grow because of your love for her. I'll pray for you and your family and that God will give you and husband wisdom waht to do with your child/ren. God bless and let us know what happens. :)

Congratulations!

Your baby is definitely not going to be behind what so ever. She is full term and will therefore meet each milestone beautifully.

My third child decided to come on his own 3 weeks early. He was never considered preterm (I was 36.6 weeks - just hours from being 37 weeks) and he has developed beautifully as well.

So relax and enjoy your new baby girl!

Two weeks early is term. Your due date is just an estimation. You can go into labor from your due date plus or minus 2 wks and your considered full term. I wouldn't worry that she hasn't smiled yet. This doesn't mean she's behind. Everything will come in time. Just sit back and enjoy the ride. By the way...Welcome to the Mommy club!

Hello...I would not be overly concerned as of yet. Your baby is still very young. My son is now 9 months, and atb that point we didn't have any major smiles yet. If any grinning probably just gas.
